But we will also be returning a redshirt senior in Koby, a redshirt junior in Greg, and a sophomore who was ranked right around where RJ is in Symir.  And we could be going back to a 2 guard lineup as we're bringing in 2 versatile forwards as it is (Oso and Justin), plus we're still in on a 3rd (Dawson), and return a versatile 22 year old junior in Bailey, a senior in Cain, and Theo has the 5 locked down.

He could start, sure.  But I'd be far from disappointed if a 4 star kid going into his senior year of high school who I've seen very little of wasn't starting from day 1 at Marquette.

Yeah my thought was play a Markus frosh-type role in non-con (10-20 mpg instant offense off the bench) then take it from there based off of team needs and personal performance in the conference season. Which would be awesome to see if he joins up!

Exactly. Will it be disappointing if 4-star Symir Torrence doesn't start this season as a freshman?

Mike and BC,

There are 4 stars and there are 4 stars. RJ is a 4*with a bullet. UNC wants him. If he's not better than Greg Elliot and Symir Torrence the day he steps on campus I'll be disappointed.

So if he's not better than the guard who was ranked higher than him when they were in the same class and would then have a year of experience under his belt you'll be disappointed?

RJ was for a long time, and still is, under rated because of his size.  The offset is that He is going to set the all time scoring record in our local catholic league, surpassing many all time greats. He has proven himself against bigger stronger kids many times.  RJ is the best point guard in the area since Kemba Walker.

RJ is the exact player many posters on this board has been wanting at point guard for many years .

The coaches have said he is effectively Markus 2.0

I would hate to see this kid go to our  league rival , Georgetown, and have to play against him 2-3 times a year for the next four years.

Well said. Would be exciting to add a Markus-level player (his freshman year) right after Howard' departure.

Correction: UNC "might" want him.  The guy they really want is from OK and if he doesn't sign with them, they'd like RJ.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I think a lot of people are forgetting Symir Torrence was ranked around the top-40 in 2020 before reclassifying. He was ranked significantly higher than Davis in the same class as Davis.

He is a very vocal figure on the sidelines at their games.
So he was yelling, "I don't want my kid on the bench!"?  How was his body language, Gus?

I'll get this one started for my man Herm.  Local talent in the class of 2037.  Giannis Jr.  Lock him up now Wojo (don't even know if it's a "he" or "she" but that's okay).
And Wojo's rebuild of the MU program will be wrapping up about then. (10 years ahead of schedule for some on this board)

Anonymous eagle quoted him at 51 when he included us in his final three. Still higher but not significantly so

Likening a high school kid to the greatest scorer in school history is definitely not a  recipe for disappointment.
I'll be apoplectic if RJ isn't the next Iverson.

Symir was basically a full grown man with a college ready body, and from a recruiting service perspective was very close to a can't miss prospect. Size, Strength,  handle, shooting, court vision, great teammate.  So his high ranking was earned. Further,  I believe if Symir stayed in the  2020 class he would have ended up a 5 star as his stock was rising.  I am very pleased he re classed and we got him on campus.

Symir and RJ would be a very talented and complementary back court combo.

LOL I don't know what I was expecting as proof, but "his dad yells a lot from the sideline" was definitely not it. Glad I had the pleasure to read it though.

That sounds like Symir is CP3 2.0.

But the point is that Torrence was ahead of Davis (who was sub-100 at that time) so the notion that Davis should start ahead of him based on his 2020 ranking isn't very logical. Had Torrence stayed in 2020, assuming no other change, he'd be about on par with Davis at worst.

Agreed. If you read my post slightly before yours that sums up what I said. I was just setting the record straight about his rating

Greg Elliott has been in the program for three years and will likely have two seasons of experience.  As others said, Symir will have a year under his belt and was ranked higher when they were in the same class.

Davis MIGHT be better than both when he steps foot on campus - and that would be fantastic.  He likely will not - and that would not be a disappointment.  That would be expected IMO.

Before we start allocating minutes, MU has to survive the official this weekend at UNC. That is easier said than done.

That sounds like Symir is CP3 2.0.

Speaking of only how he is built physically...
Symir is...very roughly speaking...built more like Iman Shumpert at a similar age. Paul is shorter stockier 6 foot. Shumpert was 6'4 longer. (Now he is considered listed as 6'5) ...Symir is listed at 6'3.

He is a more physically stronger version of Vander Blue at the same age. Similar height to some extent. Vander is now listed as 6'5 when he listed about 6'3 at MU.

But again, these are merely physical comparisons, and not other attributes.
