Yep, Yep.  This theory of MU taking care of their own will be tested this offseason.  Could be a source of frustration for the coach we all want to stay for a couple decades if this does not happen the right way.

But that's for the off-season.  Let's enjoy the ride this year first.

It was tested last season and it passed the test. We will see if it passes again. I'm not worried.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

I am with you on not being worried about paying the men their money. Plus, a strong finish this year will have a big positive for the NIL fund. I have not worried for a second that MU will be competitive in the NIL.

Hoping it will be a Strong NIL that Shaka can tske Lemon(i)s and make lemonade  as a draw to our recruits.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

As vital as Scoop has proven to be to the success of the program, I would think some of that NIL money would come our way.

I would think most hyper competitive coaches would rather make 3.5 that 4.2 if 700K was used to retain their two best players.

You may be right...but I'm skeptical. The $4.2 vs. $3.5 is just another scoreboard and, as you said, they're hyper competitive.

Some folks say that the delays in naming a SOTG happen when Rocky is preoccupied with counting the NIL funds coming Scoop's way. Odd that he doesn't share it with all of us.

(When it comes down to it, I suppose we do actually all get equal shares.)

The staff is already on to 2024 and 2025 recruits.

Wings and forwards in 2024, and bigger guards in 2025. Pretty clear priorities being established.

What about Bigs? I mean Oso will be gone at the latest in 2024 or 25.......we have no depth behind him unless the staff is very confident that Keeyan will eventually become a starting caliber player...........we can hope but hard to count on that happening.

Whole roster can't be guards and wings.

IMO, those would be included in forwards.  Add a player like Bryce Dortch or Royce Parham to Gold, Amadou, and Itejere.

Add a player like Isaiah Abraham behind Joplin.  That's 6 players to cover the 4 & 5, with a couple options to play the 3 when not playing three guards.

Depending how the roster shakes out, Shaka could also target forwards in the portal.

I believe players really like playing for Shaka. Assuming that is true they are less likely to go somewhere else for money.

My hope is we slow down the facilities arms race and the coaches salaries and some existing donor money gets put to the collective.  I would think most hyper competitive coaches would rather make 3.5 that 4.2 if 700K was used to retain their two best players.

If/when coaches feel that way, there will probably be a way for them to invest in a local business which, wouldn't you know, just happens to support a NIL program.

I forgot about the visa issue with NIL. Didn't Kentucky do some preseason work in Oscar Tshebwiewe's (sp) home country so that he could make some $$$?

It would be fantastic if Marquette did something Canada for Omax next year, then New Zealand the following year for Gold, to work around that red tape.

Neither one of them is going to be able to replace Oso. IMO

They are more 3/4 OMax types.

Gold two inches taller than Oso and already 5 pounds heavier. Compared to freshman Oso, Gold is 30 pounds heavier. So Gold is certainly big enough to play the 5, especially as he adds strength.

Can Gold offer the same rim protection that Oso does?  Small sample size for Gold, but his block percentage is 11.7%.  Surely that will come down in time.  But that's enough of a hint that Gold could match Oso's 6.2% block percentage when Gold eventually becomes a starter.

I definitely see Gold becoming stretch 5 in the future.

No one is gonna replace Oso. Shaka could nearly handpick any 2023 recruit he wants and still not replace Oso.  Oso is the most irreplaceable player at Marquette since Jae.

I agree. But he was a question mark his freshman year.  I think Gold can become very good.

No argument with this. Did not expect this year's Oso based on what we saw last year.

Goose

You are not going to find another Oso, but Gold's skill set could prove to be very valuable in this system. He handles the ball well for a big, will prove to be a very good shooter and can take it to the hole. Plus, playing with Oso will definitely give him tricks to practice. I think he will be a major part of this team and offense a year from now. I am excited to see how Shaka molds him into a big for this system.

What if we replaced him with 2 Dwyane Wade?

How does the motion work with a stretch 5 who can put it in the floor and can get to the rim from the 3 pt line?   Not Oso, but there are certainly building blocks there.

That is Gold in two years.
