At my in-laws near Detroit, they have black squirrels in the trees.  Milwaukee has only grey squirrels.

I found a place in Florida that will sell them for $1250, which makes me think I should just capture a few and bring them back myself.   -- Not to mention breed them and sell them for $1249 and retire to easy street.

They are actually Grey Squirrels with a mutation causing black fur.  I see here in Connecticut occasionally.  The black fur squirrels are all over New York City for some reason.

Speaking of squirrels, who likes the pink variety?

In western Wauk county in my subdivision I would say 20 to 40 % of the squirrels are black 60 to 80% traditional. Some years more black than other years.
That breeding thing sounds good maybe could give me an early retirement. Thanks.

I had no idea!   Maybe I could trap a few and relocate them to the north shore.   Sure easier than driving them 6 hours from Michigan.

Yup, plus in my town there is at least a couple albino squirrels.  I want someone to breed an albino squirrel with a black squirrel to start a race of zebra squirrels, though I suspect they'll just produce more gray ones.

Chico's post about the origin of black squirrels with unverifiable claims he can't back up, followed by a story of working with and name dropping Steve Irwin in 3...2...1....

Lots of black squirrels in Lake County.  I drive by at least 2-3/week.  There's a whole menagerie by my kids' school.

My brother, who lives in Brentwood, TN, has seen albino deer in his back yard on several occasions
