Reminds me of former Dukie Jeff Capel a bit...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGFifSSKg3U

I have watched these two videos...first impression. Good player but not overwhelming. But try to convince him to get him off the ball.

Too slow to play PG or to defend them and chase them around unless he has some want to and is committed to playing D. That might tire him on offense where he needs his legs.

He might be a top rated PG only due to his size. He is a Big guard. His handles are not strong enough to be a PG exclusively.

Plays at a good pace and speed. Not that explosive from what I see but seems a disciplined player. His jumper is nice. Good form.

Looks like a good team player that can be a missing link to making a team great though.

Maybe Wojo can help him be a better PG like he said, but the first thing I do is move him to SG/SF and use as a switchable.

From his quotes and summarizing the home visits of the 4 schools that came to see him and who have been on his trail, if I have to decipher who has the edge it is clear cut TEXAS LONGHORNS.

Texas, Marquette, Kansas and Kentucky in that order...

You can't be "the man" at Texas and KU if they have other top guards commit before you!

Seems like Q wants to slow play the process and see where other pieces fall. I think in the end it is going to come down to UK vs MU. Kansas and Texas will be eliminated by virtue of other guards committing. We shall see. Nevertheless, very exciting.
I disagree....

He did not say anything about 'being the man.' He talked of the coaching relationship and the complementary piece next to him.

Although I do give you that he was enamored with Kansas saying and thinking he was "the best guard in the country" and it seem that was very important to him.

To me it seems like he likes to be sweet talked. But it is  best just be truthful and up front with him because he has work to do. But telling that to a 5 star recruit {I don't see it...really. Maybe 4 star.} could be hazardous.

When he went over Wojo's coaching credentials and being impressed with that and also being aware that Marquette verbally told him they thought he was the missing piece to a Final Four team, that is top notch right there.

That told me right there he liked Marquette and senses that they value him and care about him and are not just out to use him.

The other guards you mentioned are his friends and that is a plus not a detriment and Texas is his home which is why MU should play the 'be Independent and a Leader and the Brand New NBA arena card' to get him out of Texas.

I think the last place he will go is Kansas and Kentucky.

It is down to Shaka Smart and Coach Wojo and Texas and MU clearly....from what he said on scout and how he had summed up that visit. But it is just speculation.

Boom. Confirmed....I scroll to another page and this pops up confirming what I felt from his comments I read in the article...

Kansas and Kentucky are out....just like I thought. Maybe...I could tell by what he said.

Someone said earlier that it appears that Quentin Grimes wants to be fussed over and I think this article reinforces that. He's chosen his four based on how hard they've been recruiting him, how much communication he's had with them and, it seems, how much they "butter him up."

So like 99% of the recruits out there?

jsglow

So I think I've learned a couple of things from what I've read.  One, that Grimes fully intends to pay us a visit.  And two, that we are the only private mid-sized school out there left in the running.  Some kids may not want the big state school experience.  If that's a factor at all in his mind then we're well positioned.  None of us have any idea how this will go down but we certainly seem to have a plausible path.

So it seems that wojo is using Markus and Joey as the two key selling points as those two QG has specifically mentioned in interviews. Certainly strong selling points.

Are we allowed to have Joey on campus if/when QG visits?

Absolutely.

Go take a tour of the arena he'll be helping to open up and then head back to the Al where, oh, weird, look at that, a pickup game is going on and Wesley Matthews, Jabari Parker, Jimmy Butler, Steve Novak, and a couple others are playing.  Pretty cool, hey, Quentin and Joey?

Give the kid a hard-hat for the walk-through... a little take-home gift!!

How done is the new arena? It's been maybe three months since I was in MKE. Would it be a tour of a construction site or is it at a point where there's a legit "wow" factor seeing it

I'm pretty sure the NCAA has a rule banning hardhat gifts to recruits.

Roof is completely enclosed.
They were still working on the outside skin.
The concrete is up for most of the seating areas, but inside is still a hardhat area.

the arena view provides a good look at the roof, plus there are Interior and Panoramic tabs above the picture for different perspectives.

Hmm, well maybe they should skip and go straight to putting up the Marquette banners and finish the Marquette locker room so that we can wow him with that

You can wow him with the images of what the finished product will look like and a list of all the features that will appeal to him either before or after the tour of the arena.

Ok here are my thoughts, comments and input.

1) QG has gone from  someone that the crowd had written off as a "Pipe dream"  to where MU is one of the final four and we are a legitimate final four.
2) QG's mom is a big factor in his recruitment and she loves MU and Wojo.  Not that she may not like the others as well.
3) If you look at the final four  MU, two blue bloods and the local "state" school you can see that we are really the most unlikely one to still be in the running and since we are there are some good reasons why.
4) Visit is now expected and targeting for OCT 6th. (not committed to as of this morning)
5) If KU and UK both sign the other highly rated guards then I think it is down to us and Texas.
6) If 5 happens I think it is MU,  Texas is not QG dream school.
7) Visit is going to be key..meeting players..seeing facilities and new arena, meeting NBA stars, etc etc.

I am not ready to prep the bunker, but I will change name when visit date is set.

Wojo's domino plan is still in place.

HE gets Sam and Markus,  S&M  gets Joey,  and then joeys get QG and the QG opens the path for additional 5 stars from out of state.  Wojo knows how to read the "room" when it comes to recruiting and this is a legitimate opportunity here.

One thing that does stand out a bit with the news that he's going to Kentucky instead of Kansas on September 30 is the Madness situation. By going to Kentucky, that means he won't attend either Late Night at the Phog or Big Blue Madness. Since Texas doesn't have a Madness event, that means (assuming BD84 is right about Oct. 6) the ONLY Madness he will attend is ours.

With Homecoming that weekend, I hope it's raucous and packed. I haven't seen a timetable, but if he decides in the early period, we might be the only school able to give him a legit basketball "fan experience".

Well done BD.  Thanks for the Scoop.
