Until signing day Mitchell can change his mind. I doubt Wojo is asking him to wait.
I am distressed by posters who seem to want to un-recruit a recruit.

The Big East

The scouting report on Stevie Mitchell reflects some nice skills: handle, change of direction, ability to score from three levels, court vision and ability to facilitate with both hands.

Seems to me he is a prospect a lot of quality schools would have an interest in.

And when the kid is relegated to the 10th man role, gets unhappy with his playing time and transfers? Who does that serve? Not the kid. Not Marquette. It's not going to win MU fans in Wisconsin high school/AAU coaching circles when they see kids they send to MU stuck on the bench.

It makes no sense to recruit kids who you don't believe have top 6-7 upside just because they live in state. There's going to be enough top 100-150 kids who end up never developing beyond role players. Why go out actively seeking end-of-the-bench players? Give me an out-of-state kid with upside 100 times out of 100 over a lesser player who lives nearby.
I'm all for recruiting local kids, but not because they're local kids.
...with the exception of a few programs such as Duke, Kentucky, Kansas...that have their share of 1/done and transfers, would you agree that not every recruit can be 4 & 5 -star players? A Matt Heldt-type player doesn't hurt, IMO.

Yeah, again no idea the situation with this particular kid but I think as long as you are honest and say "this is the deal, if you want minutes take your UWGB offer."

I'd say there are enough kids willing to bet on themselves that they can become a high major contributor and want to do that. And some might (Heldt of course best example).

If you recruit a top 100 with that scholly you almost guarantee someone is going to transfer - but you never know who and that can be disruptive. Of course transfers happen, but that doesn't mean it's not better to construct a roster that minimize the chances.

Finally,  just my impression but seems like we burn at least one scholly every year. Rather fill it with a kid that could develop into a positive contributor.

I have nothing against recruiting three-star kids. If the coaching staff believes a three-star has upside to fill a starter/top 8 role, great.
But if they don't project a kid that way, then don't give him a scholie to sit on the bench just because he's local. That helps no one.

If the coaching staff is making decisions on a recruit based on a published rating system, I would be very disappointed and don't think they will be at a school for very long. I would bet lots of money they don't even pay attention to the star rating systems we value so highly here.

Right now with Covid, I believe MU is behind the eight ball somewhat.  You can do all the zoom recruiting you want, but it is much easier to sell a recruit once he
is on campus.  This is why MU should be able to get some kids from Milwaukee or the surrounding area.  I would assume that most hoop players have been to a
MU game or Bucks game, has to be an advantage.  I really believe they have a good chance with local kids, as parents might have trouble traveling.

The last couple of years with all the big crowds at the Fiserv were great chances for unofficials for the local kids. Graham has pointed out he has went on many.

Also  MU , Milwaukee and the lakefront shows well in the summer.  So if regional recruits are willing to drive in and see what MU has to offer that is a plus.

One other point worth noting, because of Covid we are not having to compete with the allure of the  football weekends.

Can only dream on him, but if he is staying in town, he should play for UWM and his father.  It would be a huge boost for them!

Marquette offered forward Jonas Aidoo today

Looks like he also has offers from Providence, Virginia Tech, and South Carolina among others

GoldenDieners32

Hope we offer Jeffery Brazziel, we've shown interest for sure but I don't think the staff has offered

Well, Hunter has 3 days to say yes to MU  before Mitchell if he wants too.

FWIW, Tyrese Hunter tweeted "tomorrow *eye emoji*

At this point I'd be a little surprised if he commits to MU given the timing and little to no chatter about him committing here (along with recent Stevie Mitchell news).

GoldenDieners32

I've been hearing he's just releasing a list of schools

He looks ok but not a dominant difference maker.

Ya.

Question is did Hunter pick Iowa State first? Or did mu pick Mitchell first?

4everwarriors

Maybe OD can chime in, but I'm figurin' Hunter passed on MU first.

Why? The coaches have clearly favored Mitchell all along.

Uncle Rico

I'm looking forward to the constant comparisons between the two players.
