Hope you're not suggesting the Crystal Ball is in error.

Speaking of which, CB prediction in for David Joplin to Texas.

Don't believe we offered Joplin. Not sure why. Kid practically begged to come to MU

No longer an MU recruit but former MU target Fedonta "JB" White was the victim of a shooting in Santa Fe. MU had offered but he ended up committing to hometown New Mexico. Prayers up for the White family.

I’m sure there are TONS of high school players who have begged to come to Marquette every year (and to Wisconsin, for that matter).

But are any of them of the caliber that warrant offers by the likes of Texas and Butler?

we've been told by scoopers that we 'got' him and he was our preference.....even though Stevie himself hasn't said anything.

Ok Fluffy. Suppose you’d rather have Gardiner than Joplin take a scholarship  :-\

I don't know anything about Joplin beyond what I've read, but he's a three-star kid ranked 186th in the 247 composite and unranked by Rivals or ESPN.
He may be far better than his ratings, but I don’t understand the consternation over MU not offering a three-star kid. There literally are dozens of three-star kids MU isn't going to offer.

Don't know anything about this kid, but top-200 3*s are IMHO exactly the type we want for scholly 11-13. Kids thrilled to be at MU who appreciate the chance (and work hard in practice/scout team) and maybe develop into some kind of role contributor by Jr year (or provide injury insurance).

Agreed. Plus, with the talent coming out of the state of Wisconsin of late, I think it’s important to land a state kid, even as a role player.

So, how do you know Joplin is that? Meaning wants to be a two year practice player for the possibility of maybe playing his last two years?

And why would you think anyone on this board would know the answer to that question better than the coaching staff?

I know this, the coaching staff got someone they liked better.  As you imply said, time will tell.

This is not bagging on Stevie Mitchell, but you are basically saying MU had the offer out to him and it was his to take or leave and I don't agree with that.

My prediction is that he'll be a solid player at Marquette who has a chance to start as a junior.

I not sure what you mean when you say the offer wasn’t his to take or leave. No kid has to take an offer.  Right?

Are you saying that MU didn’t really offer him until just now?

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Consistently recruiting the home state is the foundation of a strong program. For MU , I think that means being in year in and year out dialogue with kids who have the ability to play meaningful minutes at The Big East Level.  The coaching staff has followed that paradigm closely over the years. As the players progress through high school, the intensity of dialogue evolves. For example, Nobal Days was near the top of the pecking order in the 2019 class early on, had considerable dialogue with both MU and UW , as time passed, Nobal's stock decreased . A number of schools he had dialogue with did not offer. MU's interest waned as we had other priorities that year and Days ended up at Tulane. Turned out to be the right level for Days, as he got meaningful minutes as a freshman versus being at the bottom of our roster or his other high major alternatives.

I really do not care which guard takes the next scholarship, they already have 5 guards the following year,  Akanno, Perez, Torrence, Elliott, and Jones.  Figuring
Carton is one and done, so adding Mitchell is a nice pickup.  But with only 3 bigs for 2022, now that is a problem.  There really have not been much talk about front
line players.  They must have 2 players they are close to, otherwise, I would agree that Joplin would have been offered.  No word about Etienne, and that is the one
they need.  A small forward they can always pick up in the spring market if they need one, only 1000 kids or so to chose from.

And when the kid is relegated to the 10th man role, gets unhappy with his playing time and transfers? Who does that serve? Not the kid. Not Marquette. It's not going to win MU fans in Wisconsin high school/AAU coaching circles when they see kids they send to MU stuck on the bench.

It makes no sense to recruit kids who you don't believe have top 6-7 upside just because they live in state. There's going to be enough top 100-150 kids who end up never developing beyond role players. Why go out actively seeking end-of-the-bench players? Give me an out-of-state kid with upside 100 times out of 100 over a lesser player who lives nearby.
I'm all for recruiting local kids, but not because they're local kids.

I know they offered him in 2019.

I'm not going to get into it on the message board about who they wanted most out of their point guard options and maybe you have contact with the coaches and if so, I'm wrong.

I don’t have contact with the coaches. You made a response to my post that seemed to indicate you knew more than I, but I didn’t get what you were saying. I was trying to clarify, not argue. Sorry, if that wasn’t clear.

Maybe the offer is contingent on someone not committing and that is why he is waiting until Wed.? Just a guess.

Well, Hunter has 3 days to say yes to MU  before Mitchell if he wants too.
