The BBall budget is so ridiculous, MU has not had much to show for it recently. Excellent facilities, superb stadium to play in, and yet not performing up to expectations. Really hope it turns around this season.
On the plus side, the Wojo era has been free of conduct issues.

Yes, state of the art everything with a top NBA team. Recruits apparently want more than that.

Didn’t we just land a great recruiting class partly because of the new stadium?  It’s only been one season.

Our practice facilities are nice, but have already been passed by a lot of programs.  The Al is already 16 years old

How much of that spend do we have to do just to be relevant? No football.  Cold weather.  Etc. We also don’t get to leverage other sports to spread expenses for the costs like many bigger schools do.

Well, I know two cars were driven into it that required repairs.

2014 it got a facelift, which was needed.   Fair enough.

Before this, November 2000. Next longest streak outside the top 25 is Georgetown (last ranked March 2015).

3 easy games coming up . Wins are a good thing.

Go 9-9 in conference and pick up more quality wins. Their Conference games are split between q1 and q2 with Providence at q3.

Put that together with the Good wins they have and they are in good shape.

Not a stretch at all. Lots of good teams but no great teams in Big East.

If they can maintain, yes.  I suspect they are going to wear down in the conference due to their lack of depth.  Ewing will have to be careful how hard he pushes them in practice with so few bodies.

The first four games we have, 1-3 very possible.

Anyone who is just penciling in 2 wins against DePaul hasn’t watched DePaul play this year.  What they have and haven’t done the past 15 years is irrelevant.  This is a pretty good team and their resume and rankings show just that.

Seems like this year home court is huge. Hold serve at home, steal a few on the road, Providence, Creighton, St Johns. 11 or 12 wins.

We will lose at least one, probably two at home.  Question is whether we can steal more than 1 or 2 on road to offset

I would substitute Georgetown for DePaul. Don’t get me wrong, the Hoyas have impressed since The Leftovers, but I think depth issues will really hurt once they get into conference play.

I'd also give us a decent shot at sweeping Creighton since we own their arena.

I think they get us this year. Its BE game 1.

Without looking back at it. In the New BE how many times have we started 1-0? Thats been a tough trend for us.

Interesting that Marquette will likely only have 1 Q3 game all year and 23 of their 30 games will be Q1 or Q2 games.  We are also scheduled to play 14 Q1 games (could change) with 12 more to go, so plenty of chances to have an impressive resume.  Have to think that will be a feature to our schedule that will help come selection Sunday.

I know people don't feel the necessity of running up efficiency margins, but even against crap teams, it helps. Wisconsin and Purdue winning likely helped, but our margin was the biggest determiner, no doubt.

Question: Are the Q1, Q2 etc determined at the time of playing, or end of year?

End of year if I recall correctly

Question: Are the Q1, Q2 etc determined at the time of playing, or end of year?

Ultimately, end of year, but when you look at a team sheet, it's wherever the team stands as of that moment. So North Dakota State is currently a Q4 opponent, but if they handily win on Thursday (15+ points, favored by 13) they will likely move up to Q3. But they could easily move back and forth between Q3 and Q4 as the year goes on, possibly even get to Q2 if they really dominated the Summit.

The only number that matters is where the Quadrants & NET stand on Selection Sunday. Worth noting, if you ever go back to look at past NCAA rankings (NET or RPI) they will show a final number and a "previous" number. The more important one is actually the "previous" number because that is taking into account where teams stood when bids were allocated. It's fine to consider the results of the various postseason tournaments, but it's not like they retroactively change anyone's end-season results.

Gotta protect home. Road wins are VERY valuable too. A win at Creighton would be really good for us.

So it's conceptually possible that it could cost them a tourney bid?

MU moves up to #30 from #35(not as much as I thought they would move). USC moves from #51 to #46, now giving MU another Q1 win(for now anyway). K State moved from #103 all the way up to #85. The NET is weird. I don't know why they can't/don't release the formula.

The NET is weird. I don't know why they can't/don't release the formula.

They don't want teams to game the system like they did with RPI.

We won and covered, Maryland won and covered, Madison won and covered.  Even with K-State and Purdue losing, up 2 seems about right.

It's time to start thinking about Quadrants and Team Sheets.

Right now the glaring hole in our resume is the lack of Quad 1A wins.  We have four losses: Maryland, Seton Hall, Wisconsin, and Creighton.  Our Quad 1B is better with three wins: Nova, Georgetown, USC.  Overall that gets us to 3-4 in Quad 1, but the Quad 1A losses hurt.

Good thing we still have some chances to pick up Quad 1A wins: Butler x 2, Seton Hall, and @Villanova are all likely to be Quad 1A games, while @DePaul and @Xavier are very winnable Quad 1B games.  Plus any of these games in MSG would be Quad 1s: (1A) Hall, Nova, Butler, (1B) Creighton, maybe Depaul and Georgetown.

Would also be nice to see Providence rise a few spots and turn that Quad 3 loss into a Quad 2 loss.

The good news is Villanova is really close to Q1A. The cut-off is 15 and they are currently 16. I'm looking at the lower quadrants a lot. I'm hoping K-State can move to the top-75 for another Q1 win. St. John's, Providence, and Davidson are all pretty close to moving up to Q2 as well. Would be really nice to see that movement.

Right now, Purdue, K-State, and Davidson are the three biggest resume disappointments. Really thought those could all be Q1 games at the start of the season. Davidson especially, both Grady & Gudmundsson are posting career lows in offensive efficiency.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like this is a solid Big East year. I think many of the teams have the makeup to do well in the postseason, and I will be really rooting for them all. Not many hate-able teams in conference this season, a lot of things to like

Chance for a Quad 1 (albeit 1B) win tonight at Xavier.  Quad 1 losses don't really hurt, but quad 1 wins certainly help.

Would be nice to see Providence move up just three spots and turn that Q3 loss into a Q2.

Purdue had a nice chance to move back into Q1 last night, but lost.  Davidson is back into Q2, although by the skin of their teeth.  Those 2 plus Providence are the three biggest to watch and hope for positive movement IMO.

I was surprised that MU only moved up 1 spot in the NET last night after a Q1 road win. I thought they might even crack the top 20. The thing that probably hurt them is Davidson being back into Q3 after a 4OT loss last night. What a disappointing season they are having. That win for MU before the season started was supposed to look really good. Unfortunately not so much.

NCAA has not published any formula. They say the model is designed to be predictive in nature and that as the year goes by it becomes more accurate.

As far the team sheets go, I agree that the Davidson win is not going to be doing much for us. We just have to keep building our resume in the remaining Big East games. Committee has consistently said in the interview after the tournament picks are announced , that they give a lot of weighting to the number of quality wins a team has been able to achieve.

Davidson having a much worse season than I thought. Good team last year, with most key players returning and a fine coach. But they lost two guys early on, and their best players - including the returning A10 POY - are having mediocre seasons. Sucks for them ... and for us! K-State also has not had as good a season as I thought they would.

But as BM1090 pointed out, USC is having a better-than-expected season. Plus, every time it looks like Purdue is cooked, they pull off a huge win or two.

Pretty happy with a NET of 22, considering everything.

Friday January 31, Marquette is now 22 in NCAA Net Rankings.

Classic Wojo. Intentionally demotivating his team and encouraging weak fouls to get us to a 22 ranking. Boo

22 on net means a 6, maybe a 7 if they had to adjust locations.

If they went strictly by the NET, 6. That said, I could see some teams behind us like Kentucky, Creighton, Auburn, and Illinois being seeded higher than us. I would put money on a 7 right now, but anything 6-8 feels about right.

A fun fact from last year. NC State final NET ranking was 33 and they did not make the tournament at all.

I believe we have enough quality wins to make the tournament, but am not sure what kind of seeding we will get.

They were the definition of gaming the system (interesting since no one knew the system at the time) and the SC saw through it. Of the 46 brackets on bracketmatrix.com to update since Tuesday, 45 have us between the 6-8 lines.

Maryland, Robert Morris, USC, & North Dakota State all won. NDSU in blowout fashion. Jacksonville lost a game they should have won narrowly.

Stanford lost and dropped 11 spots. We also passed Kentucky & Penn State, who probably just didn't have as good of non-con results on the day.

Creighton made big leap forward from 25 to 14 with win at Villanova.

Other than Georgetown at home, it looks like every other game is Q1. For Q1A games remaining, 2 out of 3 are at home. We have a great opportunity to put a very nice resume together and climb seed lines.

Looking at the upcoming schedule the Big East is the only conference without any Q3 or Q4 games left on the schedule.  The Big Ten is close, except for Nebraska or Northwestern games.  It is crazy how the good from top to bottom the Big East is this year.

  • Loyola-Maryland: This has been the biggest disappointment in my opinion, but Santi Aldama finally debuted & had 11 points and 3 assists in just 17 minutes as the Greyhounds got their first league win in almost a month. Worth watching to see if their fortunes improve with the Spanish NBA prospect now available.

They had two significant injuries that have just killed them. They were 9-5 before the second injury with all the losses being on the road to better teams. They lost their next 8 games. They did win Aldama's debut yesterday so maybe they turn it around.

Just for grins and since we have the week off, anyone wanna speculate where MU would be in the NET if they win their net 3 in a row??

Butler(H)
@Nova
Creighton(H)

Now obviously their are external factors that go into it(opponents results), but on their own merits, where do we think those 3 wins would land MU??

They have said the NET model is predictive in nature , so a winning streak  like that , against strong teams, would indicate that the team is doing well so most likely some modest improvement. Especially if those in front are in typical conference mode where there is cannibalization going on.

I’ll take a guess- #13-15.

If we win 2/3 I’d go with just inside 20.

If MU losses 2/3 I’d say stay in the mid
to low 20s assuming no 20 pt blowout loss at home.

Getting swept would likely lead to a drop into the mid to low 30s unless all three losses are extremely close

I'm not saying you're wrong at all, but man, to beat the NET #12,13,14 and only move from 25..to that range would be a bit disappointing I think. For reference, Creighton moved 11 spots alone yesterday by winning @ Nova. Again, there's a lot that goes into it, I know, but I was king of thinking they MIGHT crack the top 10 if they ran off those 3 in row. Although your range of 12-13 is just outside the top 10. Let's hope we get to find out!

Depends heavily on margins. We'll be favored against Butler and Creighton, so if those are narrow wins, we won't go up at all. We'll be an underdog at 'Nova, so that would move us up. All close wins, probably 20-25. All big wins (8+) and I'd say 13-18. Lots of variability.

If we go 3-0 I think we are in the teens. Might literally be only 18 or 19 but I think at least the teens. Then higher if we get some ass kickings in there.

Wow I missed CUs 11 spot jump, thanks for pointing that out. That’s one of the largest I’ve seen in the last month. Winning by 15 on the road had a lot to do with that obviously. They were only up 7 with 2 mins to play and I would bet extending that lead late helped them a lot more than had they have won by 3-5.

I’d assume MU would be similar type of underdogs in the game at Nova as CU was, and a win in that game by double digits  to go along with a three game sweep of the next 3 would probably put MU right around the top 10. That would be awesome

That’s obviously the best case scenario. However, I think them being Q1 is more important than MU maybe dropping a spot in NET. I think the committee really values the Q1 wins.

Purdue will finish with at least 6-7 more losses and the tie breaker to Marquette. There is no way they will finish ahead. Also keep in mind that Marquette players Butler, Creighton and Seton Hall at home. If they win two of those 3 they are going to be in the top 15 in NR.

I realize that they haven't released the NET formula, and probably won't, but help me out here.  Comparing us to BYU, who is 1 spot ahead of us.  Q1 advantage us, 5-5 versus 1-5.  Q2 advantage us, 5-1 vs 4-2.  Both undefeated in Q3 and Q4 games.  SOS advantage us 20 vs 32.  The only way that I can see that they're superior to us is in quality of Q4 games; they've played 7 to our 5, but their worst is 270, while we have a 310 and a 312.  Is that really enough to overcome the additional 4 Q1 wins that we have?

The NET is more than just wins and losses.  It takes into account O and D efficiency, adjusted win percentage based on home/away, point spread up to 10 pts, and details within those categories.   So the resume and quad records are the product of the NET, not the other way around.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the explanation, we have had some ugly Q1 losses, although one would think that twice as many Q1/Q2 wins would overcome that, guess not.  I think there is a good chance that we pass them regardless as they only have one more Q1 game on the schedule , which should be a loss to Gonzaga, while we only have 1 non-Q1 game left.  Going .500 (or better, can't go .500 in a 7 game stretch) in our remaining Q1 games, plus winning our lone Q2 game remaining should put us in the top 20, assuming no blowout losses.

BYU Average Winning Margin: 17.4 ppg
BYU Average Losing Margin: 8.3 ppg

Marquette Average Winning Margin: 15.6 ppg
Marquette Average Losing Margin: 12.2 ppg

With SOS, if we perform similarly from a results perspective we'll pass them, but with similar SOS & records, those margins are significant.

And while BYU is ahead of us in NET and KenPom, bracketmatrix has them as top 9 seed while we are the top 7 seed. Obviously, bracketoligists don't choose the field, but even though they have the better cpu numbers, they likely get seeded below us

Exactly.  The NET rating isn't the S curve.  It is the starting point.  They will look at those Q1 wins and losses as some are better than the others.  That is why our schedule being so strong and the ability to pick up wins over Butler, SHU and Creighton will greatly strengthen our seeding vs the S Curve.

Just to be clear, I wasn't really that worried about seeding/bracketology, I was just trying to get a better understanding of NET, and was kind of amazed that a team with 1 Q1 win could be ranked so high.  I know that there are other numbers being crunched in the equation but they had the fewest Q1 wins out of anyone in the top 25.

Purdue will finish with at least 6-7 more losses and the tie breaker to Marquette. There is no way they will finish ahead. Also keep in mind that Marquette players Butler, Creighton and Seton Hall at home. If they win two of those 3 they are going to be in the top 15 in NR.

Last week Purdue iffy to make the tournament.....they seem safely in at the moment.  29th in Net Rankings before today’s road win vs IU.

I watched some of that and they really just gave it away. They couldn't handle ASU's defensive pressure and had no offensive rhythm.

The Pac-12 had a better non-con this year, but other than Oregon and maybe Colorado, I'm not sold anyone in that league is very good.

Once MU becomes a lock, my focus is on getting as many schools from the Big East in the tournament. Helps financially and aids in recruiting.

I agree with your assessment on the Pac-12.  Arizona is not that strong, but they have a high NET ranking and The Johnnies beat them on a neutral , which indirectly helps everyone in our league.

This is an interesting report the NCAA puts out. Gives a good perspective on where MU ranks among the various factors.

One big feature of the Big East is the sheer number of Quad 1 games our league as a whole has is very helpful. Big 12 and Big 10 also have a lot of Quad 1 exposure. That is helpful when evaluating team sheets.

Our KenPom score went up by about .20 tonight. With so few games being played, I was curious what caused such a significant jump. Turns out, Davidson won at St. Bonaventure by 29. This game them a 22 spot boost on Kenpom. If they have a similar boost on NET, they will be safely away from the Q2/Q3 cutline and 15-20 spots away from the Q1/Q2 cutline. I don't think any team on our schedule has underperformed more than Davidson. If they have turned a corner (the game before this one was also a 30 point win) I could see them sneaking into the top 50 and giving us another Q1 win. 4/6 of their remaining games are against top 55 teams in NET so they will have their opportunities.

MU is back up to #18 this morning...where they were before the Nova game. Creighton #14, Hall #15, MU #18. Very strange to me that Hall can lose at PC and not move a single spot...I realize it wasn't that bad of a margin of victory but still..As an Example of how weird the NET is...Auburn lost in OT @ Missouri yesterday and their NET goes from 13 all the way down to #24. That's a massive drop.

Actually, it might have more to do with attrition then anything else..what I mean is...look at Auburn..they were at #13 prior to yesterday's game..lost @ Missouri and dropped all the way down to #24. Another example is Butler..they were #12 prior to yesterday and lost to GT at home..dropped to #19...so both of them dropped below MU. Those two things(plus other things of course), could have lead to their increase more than anything else.

Big East remains the only conference with no league games in Q3 or Q4.
Need to root (a little bit) for DePaul and GTown in order to maintain that, though.

Remember, we don't know the gap between spots.  Duke is still 6th but their lead over 7th likely shrunk.

Yes but still, I mean we have seen teams make 10+ spot jumps with one win..we have seen teams slide a handful of spots for losses and those have been against respectable teams. To lose @ Wake Forest and not move a spot?? C'mon!

Does anyone know whether for NET calculations an OT is different than a regulation loss?  For example, the formula could count all losses in OT as a "one point" loss even if eventually losing by 10.

Statistically speaking, this makes total sense.  A bellcurve would breakdown like this:

Group 1
Teams 1 to 8

Group 2
Teams 9 to 56

Group 3
Teams 57 to 176

Group 4
Teams 177 to 297

Group 5
Teams 298 to 345

Group 6
Teams 346 to 353

The more teams in a group, the more data points bunched closely together.  Groups 3 and 4 would experience the most volatility in Net rankings when Net raw score changes. Groups 1 and 6 would have the least volatility.

Can someone explain to me how Arizona NET ranking is so high at No.11

They blow out mediocre but not bad competition.  Makes their efficiency numbers look good.

Arizona has played 0 sub-300 NET teams. They have also only played 4 teams whose NET is between 165 and 300:

#298 Long Beach State (won by 37)
#284 San Jose State (won by 48)
#219 Omaha (won by 50)
#212 Northern Arizona (won by 39)

Playing teams in that range, you would expect Arizona to win by 20-30 points, when they win by 37-50, NET rewards them significantly. Now it's not actually about margin of victory because NET caps that at 10, but typically the larger the margin of victory, the better your efficiency numbers which there is currently no cap on. This is why you see Laval Jordan fouling down 20, Wojo calling a timeout with 15 seconds left in a blowout, Partick Ewing calling for a last second three, etc. Every point theoretically matters.

Good news is, it seems like the selection committee is able to see through inflated NETs. Last year, NC State was left out of the tournament despite at top 35 NET. This year, Arizona is being projected in the 6/7 seed range despite an NET that would suggest a 3 seed.

Big winning margins, small losing margins. Their average margin of victory in Q4 games is insane, but they also have numerous top-100 blowouts by 20+. Their losses are also mostly close, with 7/9 by single digits.

The fact that Wisconsin is still behind Marquette shows me everything that I need to know about how the NET is a crap ranking. Despite the fact that I hate the Badgers there is no denying there resume is night and day difference. They have 7 sargin top 25 wins the most in the country. Kansas has 5 and the next few teams have 4. They have 3 tops 25 road wins. And yet they are still at 27?

I am only using them as comparison because its beyond obvious who the higher seed should be yet looking at NET you wouldn't be able to tell.

Wisconsin has great wins, but they also have 4 losses to teams below Marquette’s worst loss, which is Providence (44).

And 3 of those Richmond (48), NC St (54), and New Mexico (148  :o) were not even road games, but on neutral floors

Ceilings and floors.

SJU played near their ceiling, Creighton played near their floor. This is what makes college basketball great, anyone can beat anyone on any given night.

It also means that sometimes a loss doesn't mean the loser played poorly. Sometimes it means the other team played out of their mind.

Feels like our game at Carnesecca last year. A team that shot 35% from 3 on the year shot 46% but I remember they missed like their last 3-4 3PA when they were up big cause they were well over 50% all game.  Marquette played bad but they were unconscious

Truly amazing  that Marquette can lose to an awful DePaul team and drop only one spot in the NET.
Can they lose their next 2 to SJU and DePaul and still be in the top 35 of the NET? What a worthless tool if that is the case.

Interestingly, MU would be at #27 under the old RPI per Warren Nolan’s website (he still crunches it out for comparative purposes with the NET).  All more of a comment on the weakness of the field this year?

Its truly amazing having watched this collapse first hand, but purely resume-wise, MU is still likely a 7 seed even with 2 more losses in a row.  Now, maybe the committee would ding them a line or two in that scenario having lost 7 of 8 (cant blame them!), but purely from a resume standpoint, there is an ocean between MU and the last 4 in.

Not sure if I'd go as far as you are, but Lucas Harkins who is pretty good at this echoes your thoughts

To me it kinda seems like there isn't a huge difference between team #25 and #75, and aside from the top 5 or so, anyone can beat anyone this year.  Our resume still looks pretty good in comparison to those behind us.  I don't know if it's necessarily the weakness of the field, I think it's more that there isn't that big of a difference between the 6-11 seeds and the NIT teams.

On the eye test, sure.

But MU is 5-9 in Q1, 6-2 in Q2, Q3 2-0 and Q4 5-0, with a NET of 26.  That is 11 Q1 and Q2 wins, and zero losses out Q1 and Q2 with only 7 games in that category.

Compare that to the last 4 at large teams in per bracket matrix:

Stanford Q1: 5-5; Q2: 2-3; Q3: 6-1; Q4: 7-0; NET 25
Cinci Q1: 2-6; Q2: 7-0; Q3: 7-4; Q4: 3-0; NET 51
UCLA Q1: 6-6, Q2: 3-3; Q3: 4-1; Q4: 5-1; NET 75
Utah State Q1: 2-4; Q2: 2-2: Q3: 7-2; Q4: 10-0; NET: 38

Its frankly not close.

I agree there's a big difference in resumes.  What I meant is that if the teams played each other it would all be pretty close, more of a "anybody can beat anybody".  We were only favored by 4 against #81 DePaul.  Look at point spreads for tonight...

#11 Florida State
#59 Notre Dame +1.5

#48 Virginia
#108 Miami +2

#3 Dayton
#52 Rhode Island +4

#45 Minnesota
#54 Indiana -3.5

#34 Florida
#84 Georgia +2.5

#31 LSU
#47 Arkansas -3.0

Honestly, it's not that surprising. Its a Q2A loss, so not a loss that really hurts your resume. Plus we are at the end of the season, it's one data point out of 29. The further you go in the season, the harder it is to move up or down because each game impacts the overall score less. We earned our high rankings early.

What this metric doesn't cover is the fact that DePaul was missing their best player and the overall trend to end the season. We've been playing our worst basketball of the season in 2 of the past 4 games.

I lived in Minnesota in 1996, and was in a bar on Selection Sunday.  The Gophers finished the season 18-12, and won their last 3 Big Ten games to finish the conference at 10-8.

They missed the tournament.

The level of bitching was high with fans sighting all the usual metrics at the time . . .  SOS was good, above .500 in the Big 10, a few victories against ranked opponents, etc.  All the statistical arguments were valid, but Minnesota did not pass the "eye test."

They were an average team that lost in the 2nd round of the NIT.

It is painful to admit, but absent a victory at St. Johns and semi-final run in the BET, Marquette does not pass the eye test.

Marquette is 25th in the NET and 29th in KenPom.  They're ranked higher in KenPom than literally every team in the SEC.  If Marquette doesn't deserve to be in the NCAA Tournament then just let the P6 conference tournament winners, minus the SEC winner, plus 3 at large teams battle out an 8 team Tournament.

Stop being dumb.

PS, since I apparently hurt one of the dentists' feelings in a different thread, if being called out as being dumb hurts your feelings, there's a simple solution.  Either educate yourself and have a reasonable discussion or don't post your irrational thoughts.  Or accept that when you post something stupid (Bobby Hurley should be hired to replace Wojo...when he's exactly what people are crying about Wojo for - sub .500 conference record in his 5 years in the killer Pac12, no Tourney wins) you'll be called out.

Your 24-year-old story has no bearing on today's selection process. Your assertion that Marquette might miss the NCAA tournament does not pass the eye test.

Have your eyes tested any other teams below, say, the top 30 seeds?  My guess is not, based on your rather clueless assertion.

In 1996, Minnesota had an RPI of 46. All but four of their wins were outside of the top 50. Only one was top 25.

MU 2020 has a better resume than Minnesota 1996.

Marquette being a mortal lock for the NCAA (which they are) and Wojo overseeing another epic late season collapse are not mutually incompatible. The former doesn't wash away the latter.

I would be shocked by a first round NCAA blowout (loss) given MUs projected seed.  They've been playing poorly, but I still think almost every BE team is better than most teams in the 7-10 seed range - thus giving Marquette a good chance for a first round victory on a neutral floor.

It is amazing that Prov's non-conf was so bad it is still only where it is after they have played like a top 15 team in the country for about a month now. If they end up in the 8/9 slot, that is a tough match-up for some No. 1 seed in the second round if Prov wins their first. Dangerous team right now.

Of course 3 point shooting is a great equalizer, but the defense has been atrocious lately, and any team in the 7-10 range that's bigger/stronger/quicker than us (most) I would give a 75% chance of beating us, regardless of conference affiliation

They are cleary playing better over the last 18 games. Before.that, they were horrible. 2-3 in Q3 games

Every game matters.  Its not a metric designed to rank teams as they stand today.  Its a metric built to measure the overall body of work of a team over the course of the entire season.

It's not the end all, be all. Look where the 2 are currently protected in the bracket

Agree. When it didn’t matter much, they sucked and we were good. Now that it matters most, they’re good and we suck. If you count November and December as much as February and March the numbers say we’re better. Of course they, we and everybody else knows that’s ridiculous.

Everything matters equally up until the tournaments start.

I basically agree that is how the NCAA should do it.  Tournament should be a reward for the season's body of work.  I would much rather play us than Providence, though.  Otherwise, the rankings make sense.

To the committee, yes. In reality, no.
