Just for grins and since we have the week off, anyone wanna speculate where MU would be in the NET if they win their net 3 in a row??

Butler(H)
@Nova
Creighton(H)

Now obviously their are external factors that go into it(opponents results), but on their own merits, where do we think those 3 wins would land MU??

They have said the NET model is predictive in nature , so a winning streak  like that , against strong teams, would indicate that the team is doing well so most likely some modest improvement. Especially if those in front are in typical conference mode where there is cannibalization going on.
Winning is overrated. The only time it is really important is in surgery and war.

I’ll take a guess- #13-15.

If we win 2/3 I’d go with just inside 20.

If MU losses 2/3 I’d say stay in the mid
to low 20s assuming no 20 pt blowout loss at home.

Getting swept would likely lead to a drop into the mid to low 30s unless all three losses are extremely close

I'm not saying you're wrong at all, but man, to beat the NET #12,13,14 and only move from 25..to that range would be a bit disappointing I think. For reference, Creighton moved 11 spots alone yesterday by winning @ Nova. Again, there's a lot that goes into it, I know, but I was king of thinking they MIGHT crack the top 10 if they ran off those 3 in row. Although your range of 12-13 is just outside the top 10. Let's hope we get to find out!

The net isn't just about the wins and losses, it is about how you win or lose.

Yep. If we win every game by 1, our NET would likely barely move or maybe even go down.

Depends heavily on margins. We'll be favored against Butler and Creighton, so if those are narrow wins, we won't go up at all. We'll be an underdog at 'Nova, so that would move us up. All close wins, probably 20-25. All big wins (8+) and I'd say 13-18. Lots of variability.

If we go 3-0 I think we are in the teens. Might literally be only 18 or 19 but I think at least the teens. Then higher if we get some ass kickings in there.

Wow I missed CUs 11 spot jump, thanks for pointing that out. That’s one of the largest I’ve seen in the last month. Winning by 15 on the road had a lot to do with that obviously. They were only up 7 with 2 mins to play and I would bet extending that lead late helped them a lot more than had they have won by 3-5.

I’d assume MU would be similar type of underdogs in the game at Nova as CU was, and a win in that game by double digits  to go along with a three game sweep of the next 3 would probably put MU right around the top 10. That would be awesome

Xavier jumped up 14 I believe after winning handily at SH. Possibly a season saver.

MU moves from #25 to #23 this morning. Maybe more importantly is Purdue's big win makes them #29, which is another Q1 win for MU. Now they just need to stay there.

They need to find the perfect balance of winning enough to remain in Q1 but not winning so much that they pass Marquette.

That’s obviously the best case scenario. However, I think them being Q1 is more important than MU maybe dropping a spot in NET. I think the committee really values the Q1 wins.

Purdue will finish with at least 6-7 more losses and the tie breaker to Marquette. There is no way they will finish ahead. Also keep in mind that Marquette players Butler, Creighton and Seton Hall at home. If they win two of those 3 they are going to be in the top 15 in NR.

I realize that they haven't released the NET formula, and probably won't, but help me out here.  Comparing us to BYU, who is 1 spot ahead of us.  Q1 advantage us, 5-5 versus 1-5.  Q2 advantage us, 5-1 vs 4-2.  Both undefeated in Q3 and Q4 games.  SOS advantage us 20 vs 32.  The only way that I can see that they're superior to us is in quality of Q4 games; they've played 7 to our 5, but their worst is 270, while we have a 310 and a 312.  Is that really enough to overcome the additional 4 Q1 wins that we have?
