People who don't know crap about Marquette basketball, but insist on sitting directly behind me at the Fiserv and talk nonstop, forcing me to listen to 2 hours of absolute bullish!t.

I thought of this post at Tuesday night's game as I and my brother-in-law stood from the start of the game until first MU basket while the people sitting behind us were complaining we were standing.  They said things to one another like "What is this, the student section?"

Did they not look around to see the entire arena standing at that point??   I certainly hope they took notice after the first bucket and the entire place sat pretty much in unison.

FTR the color guys on Fox made note of it.  They were commenting that everyone was still standing because it was awhile before we got our first field goal and how the tradition is to not sit down until that happens.
Have some patience, FFS.

tradition?  Since when?

I know Syracuse has done it forever and Wisconsin started having everyone stand until the opposing team scored (this started with the move to the Kohl Center). Traditions can't be imposed or created and immediately called a "tradition."

The standing thing is stupid, IMHO, but has been going on for at least 10 years.  At some point, I think you can call it a "tradition."

WI fans can't stand until the badgers score, it takes too long. I think it was the IL game perhaps Rider, they didn't even score until the 13:45 mark LOL.

we never did it in the 90's or 2000's. Hell, in the mid 90's the student section barely stood.

Seems we should make our own "traditions" instead of ripping others off and calling it ours.

Definitely did it 09 so it's at least 10 years old. Our students have enough trouble with our own traditions to the point we need to have a Jumbotron video explaining them so definitely don't need to add confusion

For awhile, wasn't there a toilet paper toss after the first made basket?

If they tried that today, he team would probably be assessed 2 technicals right off the bat and the students would be using cornstalks to wipe themselves the next day...the wimpification of our yutes part II

Definitely did the standing thing as a student in 99-03.....became a season ticket holder in 2006 I think and the non-students were doing it then as well....so it goes way back.
