Earlier today, a high school friend of mine posted the following on Facebook:  "Heresy Alert:
I just don't find "Animal House" very funny.
"

It got me to thinking...what are some popular things that I just don't "get"?  I'm not talking about things that I haven't tried (e.g., Game of Thrones), but things that I have tried but just didn't enjoy.

As a starting point:  I'm not the only person who thinks the Rolling Stones suck, am I?

What are some things that you don't "get"?

100% with you on the Stones, not a fan of them at all.

Mine is probably Napoleon Dynamite. Thought that was one of the dumbest movies I've seen in my entire life.

jficke13

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was garbage without a single redeeming quality and people love it. It's baffling.

Spotcheck Billy

The Stones for pretty much anything after Tattoo You and the same for Aerosmith after Rocks.

The movie Dumb & Dumber. I have friends that think it's the best comedy ever, I can't watch more than 10 minutes at

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Agree with some of the things already on this list. U2, Napoleon Dynamite, Dumb and Dumber. I enjoy the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith but not at the level most seem to put them at.

My biggest one is probably college football. I enjoy it enough that I'll go to a game if I have a free ticket and I'll bandwagon with the Aggies for the first 5 weeks before the Alabama game when everyone realizes that we are on completely different level from the top teams. But I cannot understand following a sport where half the teams could go undefeated and still not make the national championship, most of the rest are eliminated after 1 or 2 losses, and pretty much every team is eliminated by their 3rd loss. Once the Aggies get loss number 2 I can't pay attention any more.

That movie is so terrible.

Everyone who thought they were "deep" in high school loved it.

Springsteen.

Springsteen is good. But not nearly as good as a lot of people think he is.

He's another John Mellencamp, Bob Seger, etc. He's fine, but that's it.

Addressing some that have been mentioned:

Dumb and Dumber -- a stupid, guilty pleasure...sorry.
Springsteen -- not really a fan and wouldn't go out of my way to listen, but did see him in concert once.  It was pretty good.
U2 -- I'm a casual fan.  Took my daughter to see the Joshua Tree tour a couple years ago and we had a great time.
The Departed -- I'm a fan.
The Kardashians -- WTF?
Napoleon Dynamite -- never really saw it...just bits and pieces.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind -- never saw it.
Sweet potato fries -- meh...

I really, really like U2 back in the day. Now I can't listen to them.  Every song sounds the same.

I do like peak Rolling Stones (roughly Beggar's Banquet through Exile on Main Street)   But they've come out with so much schlock and hung around so long that it has watered everything down.

Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Vacation, social media in general, cats on the internet, pets in general, fishing, coffee, any form of extremism.....

Great thread idea.   I can see returning to it on a daily basis as something new pisses me off.

Rolling Stones were great for more than a decade. Now they're an oldies act. That's cool. Their oldies are great. Springsteen has become a great oldies act, too. Happens to the best of them unless they break up first, like ...

The Beatles.

Fluffy, you're out of your mind. I mean, what's not to love about the greatest band there ever was or will be? (And what's with peanut butter being on your list? Delicious! I eat it almost every day for breakfast with apple slices and bananas. It's almond butter and other "all-natural" nutty-ish butters I don't get. They look like a cat had dia ... well, you know.)

Totally agree with most pop-culture stuff. I have never watched one minute of reality TV and I doubt I ever will. A late-night TV comedian will make a reference to some of these clowns and I have no idea what they're talking about ... and that's A-OK. My life is not worse because I don't know anything about the couple that had 30 kids or about what happened on the effen Bachelor.

There are many movies that people LOVE that I think are highly overrated, or just plain bad. Good example: I hadn't seen Blazing Saddles since it was in the movies and some friends of mine were talking about it, so I decided to watch it again. I was stunned at how funny it wasn't. Caddyshack is another one; when I told a friend I didn't like it, he was outraged and told me I would have to turn in my "Guy Card." Field of Dreams ... sappy crap; and as if that wasn't enough, they even sent Shoeless Joe to the plate to bat right-handed.

But Animal House? Come on, man, that's a freakin' hilarious flick! Almost every scene Belushi is in is riotous, and many others are damn funny too.

Sports-wise ... agree with wades about soccer and TAMU about college football. There is nothing worse than the non-playoff bowl games ... except, perhaps, for soccer "friendlies."

The NFL Draft has gone from the worst day in sports to the worst two days in sports to the worst three days in sports. Maybe next year, they can just televise one round a day and make it an entire worst week in sports.

I definitely don't get auto racing. Or ultimate fighting. Maybe combine the two so that when a driver gets pissed at his rival, he kicks the guy in the face.

You mean beside the delusional people who think they're the greatest band there ever was or will be?  ;)

In all seriousness, I just don't like the music.  I'd rather listen to more blues oriented stuff like the Stones or the Yardbirds.
