Is this a situation of starving bears? I've just never hteard this situation before

A bear will literally tear you apart to get to food that it smells. I read a story about a Boy Scout who was killed because he had a Snickers wrapper in his sleeping bag.

It's why you never, ever store food in your sleeping tent.
Have some patience, FFS.

Bears coming out of winter hibernation are the most dangerous when it comes to food but a sow with cubs is often paranoid about any creature any where near her cubs. She will sometimes launch a preemptive strike.

In Alaska, a groups' cook will often wear clothes for cooking that are then taken off after cooking and stored in a separate sack far away from the tents. On a 2 week camping trip to Alaska years ago, our guide was extremely strict about everybody following the rules. Food was stored in (allegedly) bear proof metal containers away from our tents and absolutely NO food in the tents ever!

We were thinking tonight about how preposterous putting carrots in Jello is.

I mean .. what?  You're making Jello and thinking of thing to put in there.   Carrots?

What didn't make the cut, mushrooms?  Pickles?

Why didn't the first guy who saw that tell whoever made it to never do that again?

Or cabbage/slaw.

Fruit cocktail wasn't that bad.

When there were two cherries in the can of fruit cocktail and four kids...makes WWII look like a square dance.

And don't get my started on who gets the banana with the sticker on it.

Cherry clodpolls.

Luxardo for the fine cocktails. Jack Rudy Bourbon, great for muddling. And, Collins Stemmed for the tropical drinks, kiddy cocktails and sundaes.

We have had a Bear grow up with us.....and has never been shot during hunting season.....so far.....Have not seen him this year......So his term could have come to an end......

First year started out as a large dog but much heavier probably 150ish......at 1 to 2 years.....Loved our black sunflower bird seed boxes.....Yummy......

3 years later....last year ....full size ......standing up......could touch the bottom of our basketball net and weighed a good 500 ......

Has torn apart our garden storage bin where we keep two 55 gallon garbage pales like it was a cardboard box to a human.....

Went. out with my husky.....and it was afraid of us and tried to climb a 3 foot in diameter Pine tree.....That was truly funny......My Husky was like......Let's go over and play with Mr. Bear......NOT!

The ones not to mess with are the females with cubs......They can be very unpredictable......

No, I was being honest.

As for my eggs, hotsauce (scotch bonnet) when I feel like it, and once in a while a small shake of curry powder.  Try it, you'll like it

Pull out an older version of The Joy of Cooking and half the recipes are some sort of food encased in gelatin.  Salmon Aspic?  Hard pass.

My mother used to make a green jello with sour cream, celery and banana slices. Sounds a lot worse that it was but still not one too good.
