I wouldn't. We had no idea how 2015 would go, but without Luke we wouldn't have been competitive. Our scholarship situation was so bad that we had to add the Mache twins just to have practice.

It's all hindsight, but 2015 was bad with Luke and would've been a trainwreck without him. At the time, the idea of a NIT bid wasn't inconceivable. We had just lost Dawson and Burton, we needed any bodies and adding an impact big with Steve Taylor and Juan Anderson as our options at center was a necessity.

We needed Luke that year, and frankly more so than next year, even knowing what we know now.

4-14 in the BE isn't really competitive.  There was no chance that MU was getting to the NCAA Tournament that year, and about a 1% chance of an NIT bid, whether Luke was playing or not.  It has nothing to do with hindsight.  I wanted Luke to redshirt the whole year back then too.  But it's up to the kid.  You can't make him sit a year and a half straight, and it'd be tough for a kid to make that decision.  But whether we were 4-14 or 2-16 in the BE changes absolutely nothing to me, whereas next year Luke vs. not Luke might be the difference between a bubble team/NIT bid or a 6-8 seed in the NCAA Tournament.  Luke would've been more valuable to the program next year than he was his first 0.75 year at Marquette, and that was true the day he decided to transfer to MU as well.

Jeremiah Tilmon anyone??

Jeremiah Tilmon has asked for a release from his Letter of Intent

That kid is going one place and one place only: Mizzou.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Aforementioned---What about KJ and Dedric Lawson from Memphis?

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

East St Louis kid. Mizzou was a finalist in original recruitment. Porter Jr has been working on him. Obviously requires Illini to not put Mizzou on the restricted list still. But I see too many factors saying Mizzou. Would love to be wrong if he wants to come to Marquette despite having no real connections before.

Fair enough. Admittedly don't know much about him. Thanks for the info.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

My feeling is that we are done with freshman at this point. Grad and traditional transfers from here on out. Emphasis on grads.

Most likely Mizzou. SLU with outside chance. Cuonzo Martin was a star at the now defunct East St. Louis Lincoln Senior High School. La Phonso Ellis, others came out of that school too, before it eventually merged with East St. Louis Senior High School. East St. Louis connections run deep. Tilmon played AAU ball with the former St. Louis Eagles, now renamed Bradley Beal Elite, alongside SLU recruit Jordan Goodwin.  Mizzou is lining up elite level recruits thanks to Michael Porter Jr.

Sounds like Illinois feels there was some tampering (and by all indications there was tampering) and they will probably block Missouri.

cheebs09

Based on Bullseye, Cuonzo made a trip to the school or town saying he was visiting his sister. It's looking like that was to talk to Tilmon.

Can they block a school if the student in question never enrolled?

Yeah either they release him from his NLI or they don't.  I don't think this is like a transfer situation.

Not positive, but Bullseye made it sound like they can place some restrictions on him.

Roy Schmidt‏ @prepbullseye  2h2 hours ago

Have been told Jeremiah Tilmon wants to visit Missouri this wkend. However, Illinois won't grant his release or will put restrictions on it.

Roy Schmidt‏ @prepbullseye  2h2 hours ago

To clarify previous Tweet: Tilmon doesn't have a release as of now & a restriction COULD be invoked. Nothing definite.

We'll see...I think Bullseye is just pissed. They have been adamantly saying that Tillmon wasn't going anywhere for the past month. Now that he's asking out, they have egg on their faces. Roy and Harv give good info, but they tend to fly off the handle a bit whenever they feel slighted.

I posted what Roy said above regarding restrictions, but to your point about flying off the handle....lol

Absolutely NO SLU or Mizzou fans get follow requests granted. They can all bite me. In fact, I should really knock 'em all on their ass.

I can't find the tweet now, but didn't they go off on Evan Daniels during the whole Shaka to MU situation?  Called him a hillbilly or something like that?  That was amusing.

They can decide to not grant a full release. If that happens, the kid can petition an NLI committee for release

They also went nuts at me when I suggested that Jabari Parker probably wouldn't get his degree once he went pro after 1 year at Duke. They knew for sure that he would....

I look forward to being wrong when Parker starts taking summer classes at Duke or returns as a 35 year old with 100 million in the bank to finish up his last 3 years of study.
