Guys, this thread is to discuss what majors our players can take. Take the recruiting discussion elsewhere.

We did a long time ago......not sure if we are still actively recruiting him though. Seems like Shaka has other priorities.

Guess Pitino stated he wanted to keep the local talent from NYC/Long Island/Jersey to stay at home.

Rumors already that the number 5 recruit of 2024, Ian Jackson from the Bronx, is target number one.  He committed to UNC, but now he is all ears on hearing about the NIL from Pitino's billionaire buddy.  So, it begins.

Is Pitino's NIL "fringe benefits" taxable as well? How do you value THAT compensation?

It's a scourge on CBB that Rick Pitino can use NIL to steal recuits away from <checks notes> North Carolina.  How will they ever survive?

If Pitino can steal Jackson away from UNC, that will be a game changer. If the Johnnies and Georgetown get back to 75% of their potential, that would take the Big East to the next level.

Currently, no ceiling.

That's just not true.

If you want to say the University itself does not do this, that might be technically true. But it is an unwriting requirement from D1 coaches and  athletic department staffers. They push students in directions with the overwhelming leverage they have. Occasionally, in bigger squad sports, like football, they won't do anything the first year and then try their best to rescind scholarships in subsequent years. They'll force the students to choose between their major and a sport.

They want people in specific majors so they can have a flexible, team first schedule.

Did Grimes go to Kansas because he couldn't take his preferred major at Marquette?

Love it. Maybe just a top 3? Gotta think PSU love is going stale.

Why would he go to Pitt? They play in a mid-major conference. Probably a safety school if he can't make the academics of MU or Shaka cools on him. (channeling my inner UW-Madison)

Shrewsbury's departure definitely helps, but his mom being a PSU alum and it being his hometown team means they aren't out of it.
