Congrats on finding two players, with 1 start between them, who graduated 20+ years ago with engineering majors.

Kentucky player of the year Bart Miller was an Engineering Major.

Here he is putting his engineering degree to work.

What would those majors be that MU is prohibiting players from taking?
Dentistry, lest we end up with a bunch of criminals on the roster.

Engineering for one. Nursing is certainly a second.

I'll let you and Delt Sig huddle up on the rest.

You people and your stupid facts. Scoop is a safe haven for agendas, not facts.

In the modern era (KO forward) two players, Johh Mueller & Bart Miller have been engineering students.  Both were recruited by Mike Deane.  David Diggs, a computer engineering major was also a Mike Deane recruit.  Marquette would far and away prefer their basketball players find a major from the college of communications.

I think business is a little more manageable. I think the difficulty with engineering or a science degree is the time commitment with labs.

I'm guessing they have a pretty solid schedule with the Communications school that makes it easier to practice and travel. Plus, I'm sure it's easier from a tutor perspective if everyone is in the same classes.

Soooooo...Marquette does NOT restrict its players from choosing a major they would like to choose, is what I'm garnering from this discussion.

Heavily encourage.

Regardless, to vote against NIL is anti-American.  And anti-college basketball.

No but they'll stop recruiting comp science majors early.

This even happens for many D1 non earning sports like women's soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. The coaches of those teams often exclude them from becoming nurses.

It happens all the time.

70% of majors?

So if Texas hires someone Ron Holland doesn't like and he reopened his recruitment and told Shaka he wants to play for him but he also wants to be a comp science major, Marquette would tell Shaka, sorry man, we can't take him?

I call BS, but maybe!

I was probably hyperbolic saying 70%. Communications and Arts and Sciences technically offer more "majors" than Engineering, Nursing, and Business Administration. (I am aware that BA majors are not restricted and some are)

It differs by coach and by school.

The main point is, in the famous words of Cardale Jones "We ain't come to play school".

8 of the current players have varying majors within the College of Communications.  (Nothing wrong with that! Proud CoC grad myself.)

Stevie, Oso, and O-Max have majors within the College of Business. (My college friends that were in CoB definitely had a tougher course load than I did.)

Zach Wrightsil is pursuing Sports Leadership.  Not sure what bucket that falls into.

Process that information how you like.

From the athletes that I have talked to, It's really more about that is the field they like (sports, sports management, etc) as opposed to being directed there by  Marquette and coaches.

Thanks for the info.  Like I said, nothing wrong with studying advertising, marketing, public relations, etc.  Plenty of post-basketball opportunities in those fields.

F - that! Stick to your guns. These athletes are in fact slave labor. The NCAA is the most anti-American and evil institution on earth.  MU and Catholics are soul-less demons who worship at the alter of money.
