This isn't new information, but the story was published today about Dai Dai Ames. I would guess he'll have an OV at the end of the season. MU is the early favorite, with MSU and UK looking at him.

I believe they are hosting Ben Gold on and OV today and tomorrow. He is a 6'10" stretch 4. Plays in the NBA Global academy in Canberra. Like Omax played in for the NBA academy Latin America.

I think Dai Dai had an official the weekend of the Xavier game--unless that was another unofficial. He was at least in attendance and some saw himn chatting on the court with some of the coaches.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

He's had two unofficial visits: one for our scrimmage in October and one for the Xavier game.
I've felt great about Dai Dai for a while now, so I think it's time to make the name change.

Thanks for the correction! Then I hope/expect that we can get him up here for an official so he can take some of those cool photos in Marquette gear.

Will only feel good about our chances of him posing in MU gear if Shaka takes a page out of Brian Kelly's recruiting playbook and grinds on Dai Dai on a platform as a camera 360's around them.

We R Final Four

FWIW, Ben Gold really seemed to be enjoying himself last night. He was standing at the right time, watching the student section, engaged in the timeout huddles, etc. good to see.

Good to hear.  Recruiting should get easier based ion these results.

Is there a player past or present that would be a good comparison for Gold's game? (And none of you smartasses say Harry Froling).

"PI: Who do you model your game after and try to study on film?

BG: I love to watch a lot of Tracy McGrady, Grant Hill, KD, and Michael Porter, Jr. — like some of those guys that are like the big guards who can play inside and out. "

Stretch 4 that can put the ball on the ground. Like Joplin he'll need to work on defense, but that could be a getting stronger thing with him. Puts the ball on the ground and drives alot, which being 6'10" helps with.

Seems like a wing that could help the team by his 2nd year.

Has good skill set, but needs to add 20-25 lbs. to get stronger

My "worry" about Gold's visit last night is that he will likely play the 5 in our system. He has range out to the three point line and what he saw last night from our 5s is probably not how he pictures himself wanting to play in college. I'd imagine that as Oso game develops and if he landed a guy like Gold, he would work in more action for the 5 spot. On the plus side, we got to see Oso take a guy off the dribble from beyond the three point line. I don't think we've seen him do that before.

He is more a 3 then a 5, he would get pushed around totally next year.  Skills are way different then Kur and Oso.  Still need a grad transfer big.  Hopefully Lewis
comesback, then he would be a nice backup and will give him time to grow into his body.

He tried once early in the year and got called for a charge.

I wouldn't worry about that. Kai Jones, Will Baker, Dylan Osetkowski, and Mo Bamba all spent time at the 5 for Shaka and were allowed to step out and shoot threes. If the skillset is there, they'll get the chance, especially in this offense. It wouldn't surprise me if we see that added to Oso's arsenal next year as well, considering he's a decent free throw shooter.

Every time I see someone say a non-5-star 6'10 college kid is "more a 3 then a 5"...it seems like the kid always ends up playing the 5 in college. I seem some similarities between him and Oso's game, obviously not a perfect comparison. I don't think you will see many aircraft carriers in the Shaka regime.

I do not need an aircraft carrier but you need a physical being bigger than Oso next year.

Very nice. Hopefully the kids at the rec center were talking about it.

Kiwi indeed. Still hoping our first 2023 commit comes out of Chicago...It'll be a good Dai when that happens.

True. Some years ago a Kiwi put Australia on ebay and was asking only $35 because he said that was all it was worth. It was quickly taken down by ebay before anyone could buy the country but not before a few people saw it.

That reminds me of that Flight of the Conchords episode.
