I understand this in theory, but disagree. When it comes to handling the ball, having a dude at PG be the "man" in that regard is very necessary in my opinion. Too many cooks and no head chef leads us to what we had last year. The ball ends up in the hands of the best scorer, and if they are not a great ball handler, it gets messy.  Instead of the instinctive get Sy (for example) the ball cause he's reliable, it flows to the stud on the team, even if they aren't the best handler.

I'm fine with a score first PG, but as long as they are a PG in offense initiation and ball handling/security. For example, Winston leads MSU in scoring, but he's the clear leader in ball handling

I totally agree. My point was that other guys would be able to create their own shot off the dribble, reducing the pressure on whoever is at the point to constantly be initiating every scoring opportunity. Like it seems Markus does at times. I'm actually calling for Sacar, Brendan, and Koby to be more assertive with the ball going forward this year
If they don't take on more of the load, Markus won't make it through the year. Or he will be exhausted by the end of the year..... Just like last year.

Insane to think how little 2017, 2018, 2019 classes have produced this season looking back now in 2020.

Cain, Elliot, Theo, and Ike in 2017
Joey in 2018
Symir & Akanno in 2019

Aka no redshirting.  Symir a freshman.

Cain,Elliott, Ike...all 3 star kids...Ike injured and done.  Greg injured and has to redshirt.  What did you expect from these three?  Seriously?

I was merely just stating how we basically have 3 straight classes of no current day impact (unfortunate for Ike of course)

These last three recruiting classes is why the "Wojo is a great recruiter and a terrible game coach" line never struck a chord with me. I think people focus too much on Henry, Markus, and the Hausers, and not on all of the other players he's recruited. I think his recruiting has been pretty average and his game coaching has been better than most on here perceive. Depending on how this next class shakes out, I may change my thought process. Certainly off to a great start.

I though for his stature as a first time head coach he exceeded expectations. A lot of his recruiting success was most likely due to the MU name, the Big East conference, and the availability of playing time. In no particular order.

Karim Mane recaps Marquette, set to meet with MSU, Memphis
VIP ByEvan Daniels 86 minutes ago

Karim Mane is one of just six top 25 prospects in the Top247 still available, and his recruitment continues to pick up.
Mane, who is NBA Draft eligible and considering that option, previously visited Maryland officially in late May. He took his second official visit to Marquette on Jan. 3.
"It was great," Mane told 247Sports. "I got to get a great feel for everything at the school like academics, the school spirit, the team spirit, how the guys are on and off the court, I watched them practice and play so it was a great experience."

"My favorite part of the trip was probably the game [against Villanova]," he added. "They played great in that game. I really got to see what a gameday is like for them, basically. How they prepare for it and everything."
Steve Wojciechowski has already signed three prospects in his 2020 recruiting class, but he's looking for a replacement for Markus Howard. That's been his pitch to Mane, a 6-foot-4 combination guard out of Vanier College in Quebec.
"His message to me was that there is an open spot and that I am what they need and that I'm the most needed part of their recruitment because they want me to replace Markus [Howard]," he said. "They just told me about the opportunity to come in and play right away and have a big role."
Where does Mane go from here?
"I'm just trying to take my time making my decision, talk to my people and then figure out what the next visit is that I'm trying to take and stuff like that," Mane said.
The schools vying for the next visit are Georgetown, Memphis, Michigan State and DePaul, according to Mane. All four of those schools have offered him a scholarship.
"Memphis is coming on January 29th with Penny [Hardaway] to come in and see me and meet me and then I'm meeting with coach [Tom] Izzo [on Monday]," he said.

In terms of scheduling another official visit date, Mane said he's yet to decide which school is next.
Outside of the college choice, Mane is also in a unique position with the opportunity to go to the NBA Draft. NBA scouts and executives have been actively scouting him at games this season. Mane said that decision won't come until the end of his season.
"I'm still just trying to focus on my season, focus on my college right now and at the end of the season I will look at it but as of right now I'm just focused on making a college decision very soon so then we will see," Mane said when asked about the professional option.
Mane is currently ranked No. 25 overall and as the No. 5 combination guard in the 2020 Top247 rankings.

Awesome! I really hope this comes to fruition, I feel it's the difference between Wojo maintaining current staus quo and taking us to the next level. Plus I really want to see a lineup of Torrence/Mane/Bailey/Garcia/Theo. Great combo of ball movement, scoring versatility, length/strength, explosive athleticism, and defensive potential. The Henry and Rowsey/Markus shows laid the groundwork to get an elite ball handler scorer and an elite stretch 4 in at the same time. This needs to be the payoff for those experiments to have been worth it.

The opportunity is there! I hope he seizes it.

He would be an awesome get, and a hedge against potential transfers.     However, early days.   Some heavy hitters awaiting their turns at bat.

Are you suggesting folks might transfer after the season if things don't look good for next year?

ChitownSpaceForRent

Yes please.

I'm here for a Symir, Mane, Bailey, Garcia, Lewis starting 5

I think you need to throw Theo in there for a scoring punch at the 5.

I think he's just saying you always need to consider transfers in today's game.  But I don't really see anyone as particularly likely to trasnsfer.  Plenty of minutes to go around for all returners in 20-21.   Maybe Koby bounces if he is able to graduate after this year, but at this point, I wouldn't even consider that a loss.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Markus, Sacar, Ed, and Jayce leaving clears out 75 minutes a game.  Lots of PT available.   And there are always transfers.  My concern is if Karim is publicly given the keys, how does that affect Symir, Greg, Koby and Dexter?

This is exactly how I see it. How many teams has MU lost to who did not have more talent and/or experience than MU? Overall Wojo is responsible for the talent on the team and therefore is responsible for wins and losses. However, he generally is losing to better teams. I see team building as Wojo's problem more than his coaching ability.

Mane at best is a one year player. Greg, Koby and Dexter have already used a redshirt year, so they are not likely to transfer.

Realistically, I see a starting line up of Koby, Mane, John, Garcia and Bailey. Given that only Cain and Symir are transfer risks and currently they both look pretty happy to me.
