Recruiting as of 6/15/26

Math.  If Fru stays, the roster is set for 27-28.   If Fru leaves, MU needs another big.  The scoring 2-3 will have to come from Owens, MPII, AS, Martinez, Minessale, Walker, Miletic, Johnston, or Egbuono. 

Of course, some may depart and never stop recruiting.

I rather suspect MU will end up with 3 in that class: a big, a PG and Martinez.

Of all the recruiting sites, the last site I'd suspect being on the ball to update commitments would be ESPN... but here we are, ESPN shows Martinez's commitment while 247 and On3/Rivals drags.

Owens- I'd be shocked if he became an elite scorer. Not saying he won't/can't improve, and not trying to throw shade, but the "elite" part of his trajectory, as many of us including myself had once hoped, is fading.

MPII- stroke looks great, so should be able to score via jumper. Athletic ability is there enough to become a valuable BE starter. All BE player not out of the question either, in years 3/4, but elite scorer would surprise me.

AS- if he becomes more selfish and increases usage I could see it. Probably best odds of the group listed.

Martinez, Walker, Miletic, Johnson, Egbuonu- I'll reserve judgement until they step foot on a DI court.

Nolan- Level up, not a great shooter historically, but can get his in a variety of ways so that's a good sign. Did it at a lower level, so finding a way to get 15 a game at the BE level not completely out of the question. Only Two years to judge but even if his last year he becomes a volume scorer that's not the future.

It's often the case that an elite scorers ability is very evident from day 1. Kam could get a bucket and Shaka knew right away. He's similarly praise Egbuonu, so we will see.
Again, no offense to coach, but his "public praise" the last few years has come with some major asterisks (see 18 and Tre) so it's easy to not be as confident as before when it comes to coaches comments.

Hopefully that changes for the better, like the good ol days when he promised us all that Tyler was the truth, and he was actually the truth.

Idk if he'll ever be "the guy" for us but that's a pretty solid sample size of good mid majors & some major conference teams to show he can score against solid competition

You don't need a single elite scorer at the wing if you still have James and Parham.  You just need a number of capable guys and I'm confident that the players listed will be able to provide that.

Having an " elite scorer " (however you might define that?)is hardly required to have a good college basketball team......although it is fun to watch.

Some of MU's best scorers played on teams that didn't have great success.

Shaka should be fired for both not recruiting every 5 star hs elite scorer and then recruiting over them with the top transfer portal elite scorers.

DO is having his first healthy offseason since coming to MU and has 3 seasons to go.  MP II just turned 19 and is filling out.   I guess it just depends on your perspective.  I don't think Pitino is blowing smoke.  I don't think Coach Crawford is blowing smoke.  I think there are a lot of really good pieces and a high ceiling for this team.  And I am pleased Shaka is still recruiting high school players.
