Marquette out at Racine St. Catherine’s watching 2021 guards Tyrese Hunter (Phenom) and Kamari McGee (WI Sharks) according to Mark Miller. Hunter recently discussed MU’s interest in him with Brian Snow.

Well if I'd known this I would have found an excuse to head in "to work in my classroom" for a few a little bit and accidentally bump into Wojo and company.

I have taught both of these young men.  Both are super talented.  Hunter has the skills to be an excellent college basketball player.  McGee might not be as talented, but he is the kind of player/leader I would take on my team everyday of the week.

Marquette planning to visit Karim Mane next week. The Canadian wing is ranked #24 by 247 Sports in the 2020 class. Mane is also eligible for the 2020 NBA Draft, but is still exploring recruiting options.

Saw Tyrese playing with St. Cat's in a tournament this summer and after someone filled me in on his background, I really hope he matriculates to Marquette.  With 9 open scholarships over the next 2 recruiting classes, Tyrese has the talent to play at Marquette IMHO.

On another note, I hope St. Cat's coach Nick Bennett is being highly consulted by Tyrese.  Would really like Nick to be in the forefront helping Tyrese navigate the situation.  Nick would have Tyrese' best interests in mind when selecting a school. Again, my opinion.

On a third note, Coleman Hawkins no longer considering MU and won't visit.

Not surprised about Hawkins.  Osa is very similar: long, athletic, thin, and skilled.   I think Osa is just a superior version of Hawkins.

As for Tyrese Hunter, I really like his game.  If Marquette misses on RJ Davis, Hunter should be a bigtime target.  I'm not sure if MU would take two small guards in back to back years.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Key also moved to the back burner after the Ighodaro commit. I'm sure Garcia is still a top priority, but hard to see focusing on any other power forwards.

This is always the case, what is great for MU is the amount of money they have for recruiting budget.  It is first come, first serve.  Most programs
can not do what MU does, put out as many offers as possible and see which one sticks.   Of course, now they are down to a few left.  But going
to see Mane this week so another possibility is there.  Really getting 3 Top 100 kids is pretty good, including Symr.  If they get one more that would be impressive.  Dawson is the one they need more than Davis.

Key is more of a big body type player, sure they want him to back up Theo next year.

I don't think this is what happened here.  IMO MU wasn't going to take Hawkins without hearing from Osa first.  And I don't think Marquette has more offers out there than most teams.

Key is more like a center.  Hawkins is redundant of Osa and Lewis.  There would still be room for Garcia if Key commits.

Offers are one thing, sure all schools can put out offers, that is simple.  But going to open gyms, AAU games all over the country, in home visits.
All takes lots of money, MU's budget is about the same as Dukes.  Not sure why Dukes needs to spend that kind of money since they select more
than recruit.  No different when Al recruited in the 70's.

Probably because everyone competes.  Duke may get to "select" who they want at times, but remember UNC, Louisville, Villanova, Kansas, KY, etc. are all recruiting those guys as well.  Plenty of options for a one and done.  They are selecting more than Duke is.

It is surprising we have a similar budget as Duke.  Nice to know we put some emphasis into it, from a financial aspect.

What surprised me most is that while Tyrese is listed at 6'-0", he's a long 6'-0" and maybe getting closer to the 6'-1"+ range.  You don't see many kids penetrating the lane at that size and doing tomahawk dunks and that's what I saw this summer and I hadn't seen that from him on video.  Plus athletically with long arms.  I told someone that he plays like he's 6'-2".

Total team player who really looks to get his teammates the ball.  Very good defender and the only so-so part of his game is his perimeter shot, which isn't bad right now and he's working hard at it.  Loved his demeanor on the floor and plays hard.  Just looks like a player and with the history of MU and St. Cat's, I hope it happens that he comes to MU.

Checking out RIVALS List----Garcia, Isaiah Jackson, Jaylen Clark,
Darlinstone Dubar, Jalen Suggs, AJ Hoggard, and RJ Davis have MU
listed. Don't think Jackson and Clark. Zed Key, Sibley and Blackwell
not. Is this correct and the latest for 2020.

That's a pretty accurate scout on Tyrese, from what I've seen.  In Scoop parlance, he is a "pogo stick" type player.

Don't forget that Coach Bennett was a grad assistant at MU for one year under Crean.  In my conversations with Nick he has a lot of respect for MU.  Having him in Tyrese's ear can't hurt our chances unless cousin Tony comes calling.

Add Zed Key.  Official visit scheduled 9/21.

Marquette saw Javonte Brown-Ferguson last week and is seeing him again this week. He along with Zed Key (visiting MU this weekend) are seen as more 5 type players. Kansas is on the hunt for a 2020 5, offering multiple players lately at that position. And, they among others are recruiting Brown-Ferguson aggressively with the expectation that he will switch to 2020.  MU would take one but not both of these in 2020 class.

Garcia, Davis, Suggs, are types of players MU would take any time. It will be interesting to see the final 7 list for Garcia tomorrow, beyond Marquette, Minnesota, North Carolina, Indiana. We’ll see.
