Oh come now. One doesn't need to be an alumnus to be a fan.

Agreed. But it does get tiring for guru to keep suggesting that he is a better fan than others.

Henry was never that good.  If he stayed he would have been further scrutinized and exposed.  He is getting NBA coaching now, does nothing but refine his game and cannot stick.  Staying another 2 or 3 years of 20 hours a week practice was going to get him better than he is now with elite NBA coaching?  Lol

Henry is what he is and came out exactly when he should have....no additional staying would change his lack of quickness and so so shooting.  He made w really smart business decision.

Agree. Stretch 4s who are bad shooters don't make much of a splash in the NBA.

Wrong in every aspect.  Just as Henry is a better player now than he was two years ago he would have been a better player by staying for another year or two. Most likely will be an even better player in another couple  years, if his option was coming up then he may have been good enough to be picked up.  Saying a kid is the best hes gonna be at 23 is just another senseless chico comment. He may hit his peak at 25 but by that time will be lost in a European league.  Seems chicos is off the meds.

Oh don't get me wrong, I LOVE what they are doing thus far this year...but that's the thing..I'm hungry for more. I don't want just top 20..I want top 10. I don't want sweet 16's, I want Final Four's, I don't want to see them lose another game the rest of the year. Yes it's hyperbole, but I think you get the point..they have been very good so far this year, but there can always be more..let's see what the rest of the season brings.

1) I was at MU in the McGuire era and you'll never know how much fun it was until it returns -- and it will! But even then, you have to admit that it took a long time and lots of near misses for us to reach the promised land under Coach McGuire. Many times in here we've agonized over Purdue, Ohio State, Indiana, Kentucky etc., over the years. And then we fell from grace as fast as we got it.

MU can get back to the upper echelon of college basketball. First , it needs to get back to the Crean/Buzz trend line of success . The team is through a promising non conference and hopefully it can put together a strong conference season and get to the second weekend of the tournament this year.  They need to back that up again next year and maybe even a little deeper. I think getting the program to that top 15 type status and meaningful performance in tournament will help the coaching staff make a strong case to the major influences on a recruits decisions, parents and coaches, that MU is a program that has the commitment to excellence necessary to compete. The  coaching staff needs to be very efficient in its recruiting classes and consistently bring in kids who are going to contribute as starters or meaningful reserves.

The coach needs to stay in place for an extended period of time as well. This length of  service  demonstrates MU is a  destination program and not a stepping stone program.

With a stable coach, consistent winning and recruiting , the platform is set to put together a string of performances in final fours, championship games and win a championship. If we can do all that, over the next ten years , I think we can then probably get the most elite  of recruits to think of MU as a first choice. That is pretty much what Jay Wright and Villanova have done.

In the meantime, the coaching staff has to continue to identify players who are undervalued , overlooked etc  who they can coach up .

MU has a huge opportunity with the 2020 recruiting class as there are many quality local kids who are actually sign-able.

Any recruiting news?

Staff was on hans to watch Symir Torrence. Sounds like the visit for Strawther went well at our game against U-W.

247 has us as "warm" with 2020 pg Daishen Nix, who I assume is a Stan special.

Jalen Johnson, to me is the "prize" of this class...if MU can some how, some way land him..look out..

I'm not going to challenge your post or say anything negative about Jalen Johnson.  From the video I have seen and it hasn't been much, he looks like a tremendous prospect.  With that said, I haven't spent any time following what Johnson, Baldwin and Foster have been doing so far this year until just looking briefly at Foster's stats at Wissports.  Just not real optimistic in regards to their recruiting and Marquette.

Since I have been on a self-exile from the cesspool that is Twitter...any of you feel like updating us on "Stan Twitter Location Tracker" or any mentions of Marquette seeing prospects over the past week?

Jalen Johnson is the prize. If Wojo can land him, it is a major get for the program.

I might run up to St. Cloud, MN tomorrow to see Milwaukee Washington (Foster, Long) and Park Center (Dain Dainja), among others. Big tourney - Granite City Classic.

Looking forward to update on Deontay Long. Will be interesting to see if there are any schools willing to take a chance on him.

Davis and Desmond Polk. Like Dain Dainja. Jalen Suggs is another.

True, but I'm guessing he is Duke bound and won't lose sleep if we don't get him.  He's 1 and done, which I'm not a huge fan of for stability reasons.

Coach K has a history of flying up to Wisconsin to tell 5 star prospects that he should play for Wojo at Marquette.

Or so the story goes.

Very good description.   Torrence is my favorite MU target.  Yes, Johnson and Suggs are better but I want a group of players that can grow together.

Torrence
Dainja
Nix or Burnett (depending on which pairs best with Torrence)
Strawther (or a similar player)
Any one of the athletic PF's MU is after.

There probably will be a coupla Scoopers who, if this happens, will say we "lost" him.

Only the ones who can comprehend simple logic. Several schools will compete for Johnson. There will be one winner (hopefully us). The rest (though it's nothing to be ashamed of) will be losers. Duh.
