We R Final Four

So remind me again.....what were those serious recruiting violations that U of A committed? More importantly, what repercussions did AZ receive?
So, within the same year we hear the FBI is bringing the hammer, AZ is all over 5 star kids. They seemed to come out alright.

I don't think the AU and FBI issue has been resolved. Like all the other schools it is still an ongoing investigation.

But ultimately I think we are learning that recruits really don't care all that much about these allegations.

MuMark

Well they did lose 2 top recruits last season after the news broke. Both Quinerly and Shareef O'Neal decomitted and went elseware.

I think if the FBI/NCAA ultimately finds crimes or violations it will impact them going forward......if not it will be business as usual.......so to speak.

Herman Cain

MU has one key advantage among the four finalists for Mannion, in that we did not recruit a 2018 PG. All of the others recruited a very promising 2018 PG. Arizona , Brandon Williams, Villanova, Jahvon Quinerly, Duke, Tre Jones.

True, but will they be around for 19-20?

That whole story with Sean Miller appears to be in the rear view mirror. Quite frankly, it has gone nowhere. ESPN jumped the gun and Miller is doing just fine.

I'd put the over/under at 1.5 for the three of them. I expect Jones to go and Williams to stay. Quinerly could go either way.

Could be a partial explanation for why Nico and his family are targeting final decision in January February time frame.

Ideal scenario for MU is all three are solid freshman starters but not quite ready for first round of NBA draft.

All three could end up staying, all three could end up going or, as you say, it could be some of each.

But if I were Wright, Miller or K, I might strongly hint to Nico that the 2018-19 PG is "expected" to go.

Fake news?

I'm curious how that one came to be. The reporter that broke the story was more a college football guy and generally had a good reputation. When it broke, it seems either he had compelling enough sources that ESPN went ahead with it, or they were afraid of someone else beating them to the scoop and went without doing due diligence because at the time the FBI investigation was coming hot and heavy.

What's surprising is I don't think it was ever resolved. I didn't see any apology from Schlabach or ESPN, but also no lawsuit from Miller, which would be expected at the least to get them to retract the story. Did I miss something in there?

His take is his family took money and wanted away from Tucson so as not to be ineligible.

MuMark

If they can prove his family took money you can't escape punishment by switching schools.

I have no idea if he took money or not but I have no doubt that Nova did their due diligence before they took him.

Herman Cain

I am really hoping we can sign up Dexter in the November signing period. I think his stock is on the rise and will only go higher this coming season. He will start getting offers from Power 5 schools as time goes by.  I think Stan has found a diamond in the rough .

I hope we can bring this Joey Hauser kid to Marquette. Looks like a solid prospect.

Very true. But Herman just saw the guy's neck, so he didn't come to the same conclusion until now.

Others have touched on this, but Mannion said the two main things he looks for are "play style and relationships with the coaching staff." Those were also the two things he mentioned as key factors in considering Marquette. For Duke/Nova: "tradition." For Arizona: "close to home."

Of course, you can't read too much into an interview. But I think we've got a realistic shot.

My guess is that if Nico didn't have a great relationship with a coaching staff he probably would not include that school in final list.  I don't think there are a ton of kids who have an indifferent (or worse) relationship with a coaching staff and are really excited to go play under that coaching staff for 1-4 years.

My guess would be he mentioned his relationship with Stan and Wojo because it was an MU focused article written for an MU newspaper by an MU writer.  The reading audience would know who Stan and Wojo are, while they might not know who Mark Phelps or Ashley Howard or Nate James are.

By the way, did anybody notice that Justin Gainey is now on the Arizona coaching staff?

Maybe he will lure Nobal Days away from MU.
