Quote from: Pakuni on March 16, 2025, 03:33:41 PMI've been reading for months here that Shaka wouldn't use the portal to bring in players to compete with his high school recruits. Now he would do so - and gladly - if the transfer has more than one year of eligibility, which is the large majority of them?

The bolded isn't accurate.

I mean, do you want me to do a Scoop archive dig and find all the posts saying Shaka won't recruit over "his guys?"

He wanted Kneuppel bad, he would have started for somebody, better then 3 starters, would have played at least 30 minutes a game

Would have played big minutes - doesn't mean he would have started.

His offer would have been the second highest on the team. One of many reasons he went to Duke was becuase they could give him what Kam got.

tower912

Yup.  Duke dropped a bag.

He's starting (and playing 30+ mpg) for the #1 team in the country, and a projected lottery pick.
Not only would he start at MU, but he'd be far and away the team's second best player. Not starting him would be coaching malpractice.

This has "he couldn't cut it academically at Madison/Bo cooled on him" vibes.

Duke doesn't need to drop a bag to win recruiting battles with Marquette.

No my point is that Shaka will take transfers. He has said as much.

But they did drop a bag. Don't know if they had to, but they certainly did.

No, they don't. But they did drop a bag.

I'm sure they drop a bag for all their recruits. But the implication seemed to be that's why he ended up at Duke instead of his hometown school, which is what the losers always say.

We agree!
But I don't understand why a fairly large (or at least vocal) contingent here insists he won't.

Because they can't read or understand the spoken word.

The money was best at Wisconsin, Kon wanted to go to Duke.

Ok, Shaka's said he'll take transfers.  This is his third straight team he's had ZERO transfers.  Only his first team when he had to take them to put a full team together has he taken any transfers in.

At what point do actions speak way louder than words??

And the family loved Shaka and the Marquette program.  MU's NIL offer was competitive.

Second. He took Wrightsil two years ago.

Sultan took over the conversation, which is fine with me as I would have said similar.

Quote from: MU82 on March 16, 2025, 02:26:10 PMC'mon man. When an Ever-Eeyore and Shaka critic like BCHoopster says "Clark is interesting since not one major school in Texas offered him a scholarship, interesting" ... he is trashing both Clark and Shaka.

Of course no coach should be "counting on" finding the next Broome or Knecht, but there have been plenty of very lightly recruited players who become standouts (or at least good contributors) for high-major teams.

Kolek's offers out of HS were from the likes of Elon, Wofford, Canisius and Siena until the "big boys" of George Mason and St. Bonaventure got involved at the end. He famously was rejected by Providence. Scheierman (no stars out of HS) and Ashworth (no stars out of HS) did OK for Creighton. Cam Spencer (no stars out of HS) did OK for UConn. They had to go to small schools because zero majors wanted them. Hell, Madison seems to come up with a couple of these types every year. And so on and so on and so on.

Difference is, Marquette cant farm
Those unheralded players given the fact they're a high major. We should be going after those players in the portal, not letting them eat scholarships not playing while we need immediate help.

This is complete hyperbole. If he was first off the bench and played starters minutes it would not be "coaching malpractice". Stop being so dramatic.

Would love to hear the rationale for not starting your second-best player.
