The same people who are crying because Shaka has 3 project bigs and that's too many roster spots used on projects while we have 15 scholarships to use are the same people who cried about filling all 12 scholarships when the limit was 12 because you can't have 12 contributors and keep everyone happy so you'll be losing someone, right?

Also, we've lost few contributing players to the portal, so it's not like there's been huge amounts of playing time to offer.

Few as in zero......unless you count Greg Elliot grad transfer after his one year with Shaka.

Not sure the date of the interview (Feb., maybe), but on barstoolsports, Rick Pitino said he's not even looking at HS recruits for the 2025-26 incoming class. Rather, he's looking at 3 transfers for next season, and does not believe you can win 'big' with high school kids. What I found really interesting were his comments on roster turnover. He's very comfortable with NIL and the portal, and equates it with the Euroleage where you turn over rosters frequently. He's fine with 1 and 2 yr deals (Pitino coached in Europe after Louisville and prior to Iona)

Those unheralded players given the fact they're a high major. We should be going after those players in the portal, not letting them eat scholarships not playing while we need immediate help.

Looking forward to more great takes like this from you until your next banning.

I won't subject the rest of the board to the kind of back and forth that got you banned. Have a good one, my friend. We Are Marquette!

I would get banned and forego my Scoop dues for an Elite 8.

It's easy - the Shaka Infallible crew knows it's an absolute that Shaka would never start a lottery pick, sharp shooting freshman over program dedicated seniors and juniors who struggle to score a basket.

Not sure who the Shaka is infallible crew is, but what coach would you rather have than Shaka? You're obviously dissatisfied.

The dues are non-negotiable.

Obviously it's a complete hypothetical so feels a bit silly to argue about it.

Who would he start in place of?  Jop, a senior, or Chase, a junior?

Minutes are much more important than whether someone starts or not.  In this scenario it wouldn't have remotely surprised me to see Jop and Chase start as they've been in the program for multiple years and him to come off the bench in the first 3-4 minutes and play starter minutes.

There's value in having a cohesive starting unit, given that it's the group that's most often on the court as a group, especially at key times of a game. Not having that for the sake of what, exactly - not hurting an upperclassmen's feelings? - seems silly and counterproductive. And performative.
It's not as if Chase or Jop would feel great about starting a game then getting yanked 3-4 minutes in every night because everyone in the building knows they're not the better player. I imagine most would much rather have a defined role as the first or second guy off the bench than to get undeserved or pity starts based on age, not ability.

Its DJOver

Wasn't Stevie almost always the first guy to be subbed even when he was 100% healthy. Same starting 5 prioritizing defense, then bring in an elite scorer while moving Chase to whomever Stevie was matched up against. Reminds me a lot of two years ago when O-Max was the better defender and Jop would be first off the bench. I have no idea if that's the way Shaka would have rolled, but it's not like it unprecedented. All hypothetically of course.

That wouldn't have any impact on defined roles.  In fact, there were plenty of games this season where Stevie was pulled before the under-16 timeout.

Nor do I think it would be performative, considering the guys who would be starting in this scenario are proven college players.  It certainly wouldn't have an impact on how these players performed considering they'd all be playing big minutes with each other in different lineup iterations.

Sorry, but I think you're way offbase here.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

I remember a time where Jae Crowder came off the bench, usually 2 minutes into the game for guys like Juan Anderson and Erik Williams.

Didn't really seem to affect things much.

Who would be that elite scorer be?

BCHoopster

Any way you look at it, Shaka would have a good 6th man vs sending in Norman!
