Osa season highlight video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=186&v=8Z2068pEULU&feature=emb_logo

Stirring the pot here - If we were going off highlight videos alone and we didn't know the rank of either player, I would have guessed Osa was more highly regarded than Dawson. This guy has the length and athleticism to be a legit game changing player at the NCAA level. Let's hope he continues to develop into a great player for our program.

He looks way less mechanical in this video than he did in the video I saw last year. Last year's video showed a ton of potential. This year's shows a ton of potential mixed with legit skill.

Obviously it's just a highlight tape, but it seems like he's improved a ton.

I think Dawson is the more college ready, but think Oso has the highest ceiling in this class. If it all comes together for him, he could be phenomenal.

Agree if it all comes together best case scenario a very poor man's Pervis Ellison type which is not that bad 🙂

I like Oso and look forward to seeing him. But he won't ever be as good as Pervis. He is not even close to being the same type of player.

Agree Pervis was never nervous until you compare him with Osa

Agree, Marquette gets enough bashing on the other boards. Was trying  to be positive, on the Marquette Board for the good of winning.

Not sure all of you knew this but there was a freshman kid who not many teams recruited and was sitting out his freshman year at MU who beat Milwaukee Buck All Star Ray Allen in one on one. Ray said get this Kid away from me.

...Till Ray realized his team with Pierce Garnett and Rondo would never beat that kid then he called that kid up and said "hey you need some outside shooting if you wanna beat the Spurs"

Being over the top about recruits doesn't lead to winning.  It leads to outsized expectations that become "wow, I thought this guy was going to be better than this" type comments come November.

I have a very simple rule for recruits and expectations.  Don't pay attention to mix tapes.  Don't pay attention to breathless reports from recruiting gurus.  Wait until they actually hit the court and see what they bring.

Excuse you Dodd's has never been off about comparing a recruit to two NBA all stars or Marquette greats and "putting them in a blender"

I'm NOT saying they're the same player.  NOT saying he'll become a fraction of this guy.  NOT making that leap at all.

However.......he does have some Giannis in his game, especially if he continues to grow and improves his ball handling.

Nobody ever "knows".

But Pervis was a great, great college player, Concensus All-American. No.1 pick in the NBA draft.

To think Oso could be as good as Pervis is to think he will be as good of a player at MU as Markus was. I'm not buying it.

There is also nothing similar about their style of play, so Pervis is a very odd choice for a comparison.

But, anything can happen.

Maybe true, but there are hundreds of guys that have "some" Jordan in their game. They aren't now nor will they ever be Jordan.

I just find it funny that a guy who was not a top 10 or top 50 recruit is being compared to guys who are/were truly great basketball players before he ever sets foot on the court for the Warriors.

At least your comparison makes a bit of sense. His style is certainly closer to Giannis than it is to Ellison.

Absolutely.  Just saying with his height/size and ball handling ability, it's a very unique skillset.

Onepost, I certainly would have agreed with that 10 years ago. But 6'10" guys that can play all over the court are everywhere now.

While I disagree, I hope you guys are right and I am wrong.

There weren't many in the Big East.  Especially depends on what you consider "can play all over the court".

Maybe, maybe Mamu, Tyrique Jone, Paul Reed, and Robinson-Earl.  Not a big list for the best conference in college bball last season.
