Not sure we would get involved but Donnie Tillman is transferring from Utah. He was the Sixth Man of the Year in the PAC 12 (which is a little ridiculous to me since he was third on the team in minutes played and started 15/31 games) and averaged 10.5 points and 5.3 rebounds a game for the Utes. Was a bit of a do it all player for the Utes and he worked out for a few NBA teams after declaring for the NBA draft. I mention him because we did offer him a scholarship out of high school and theoretically he and Jayce may be friends. Plus Stan seems to love him some west coast transfers.

Why I don't know that we get involved is because supposedly the transfer is to be closer to his mom who is living with epilepsy. His mom lives in the Detroit area. While Milwaukee is significantly closer than Salt Lake City, I would imagine that he'd focus on some closer schools as destinations. He might even get a waiver to be immediately eligible.

Now this is one I would be all over.

I think he might have played with Markus at Findley Prep, he has the physical size that you are looking for at 4.  It would be a good pick-up, better than the guard from Stanford.

So Tillman would be sit one, play two with the possibility of playing immediately?

Theoretically. Though if im the NCAA I'd be skeptical of "I transferred to be closer to my sick mother... and picked a school that's a 6 hour drive away" when choosing whether or not to approve his waiver request. We also don't know if he even wants to play right away. Maybe he wants the year off so he can focus on family.

Agreed. But a cheap 1 hour flight does make it a lot closer and more acceptable. I'd think the NCAA would be sympathetic to that given that there are few better options (Ann Arbor would be the ideal situation).

You are definitely right on the possibly wanting a year off too.

They've done it before, and they'll do it again.  I feel like we've heard many stories about a player transferring to be closer to family, but not really ending up that close to home.  Can't think of an example off the top of my head though.

Charlie Moore transferred to Kansas from Cal to be "closer to home"...except he's from Chicago.  :P

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

So what?? Neither is most of the current MU roster. Sometimes guys below 100 develop into something more and that's great. It's when they don't, that there's a problem, ESPECIALLY if they play a key role on your team.

So what??  The so what is that you've generated a voluminous sub-thread here whining that MU doesn't get enough top 100 recruits, and of those that they do too many are in the low 100's.  But you want an unranked player...until later when you won't, and you can then point to it as a problem with recruiting.

This thread is dead.

No it's not. We are just in an NCAA quiet period: The NCCA defines a quiet period as a time when  "a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents off the college campus and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high school."

There is a two day evaluation period starting tomorrow. Then back to quiet period, then a three day evaluation period starting 6/21.

So while we have some time, I'd sincerely appreciate a little editing work on the P1 chart.  Updates please.  Remember, only realistic recruits should be on the list.

Niels Lane SG . Was in on an unofficial last year. His stock has been rising and he is getting a lot of offers. The one thing MU has going for it was that Coach Killings was early on Niels while still at U Conn and he brought that interest forward to MU.
