Mannion and Torrence very well may never play a single season of college basketball at the same time.

Pakuni

With the speed at which the NCAA moves, Mannion probably could finish four years at Arizona before an investigation is complete.

I'd stick with the guy who committed over the one that went elsewhere.  Why risk damaging things with Symir?

Why would it risk damaging anything with Symir?  One is a top 10 class of 2019 recruit who will be gone by the time the other, a top 50 class of 2020 recruit, sets foot on campus.  Nico is projected as a top 10 pick in 2020 Draft projections.

Obviously it is incredibly unlikely that Mannion decommits from Arizona as he has already signed an NLI and as we all know the NCAA isn't going to actually act on this, but if he did I'm not sure how anyone could possibly want to pass on revisiting Nico's recruitment.  We have a potential Final Four team going into next season if Markus returns and you can add a top 10 draft pick to that?  YES PLEASE!

Sibley update from 247

Mentions the schools recruiting him...including Georgetown, Iowa, Iowa State and MSU(no offer)

"When asked if he has made any visits this year, Sibley said, "I went to a Marquette game against Butler."

Marquette is close to home, and has been very visible recruiting Sibley this year.

About the Golden Eagles, Sibley said, "Their message to me is that they like the player I am, and how I would fit with their program. They are a great school, but I am still open."

With McEwen and Howard next year and Torrence arriving in 20 (or19) Mannion would be superfluous.

Unless McEwen is a lottery pick, I don't think Mannion could be considered superfluous, and even if McEwen is, a backcourt that can rotate three guys like that would be fantastic. I'm high on next year, but Mannion would likely make a great team better.

Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Wish I had a dollar for every time somebody tried to read into what a recruit was thinking or feeling based on an interview.

Symir never once said anything in an interview to suggest that Marquette was his favorite or the team to beat........he did say Syracuse was his dream school once though.....iirc.

That's how I feel. I'm keeping my expectations low on McEwen for next year. In his two years, he has played against a total of two high major teams and has averaged 5 points a game in those contests.

1.  Symir might reclassify to 2019.  Getting Mannion gets in the way of that.

2.  There is the risk of injury or under performance (see Quentin Grimes) that makes Mannion play a 2nd year.

3.  With Markus Howard playing as a ball dominant PG/alpha scoring guard, Mannion might not be convinced he can showcase his PG skills.   It is entirely possible MU would fail to get Mannion a 2nd time.

4.  Pursuing Mannion opens the door for Symir to rethink his commitment and just how committed Marquette is to him.  Maybe Symir would be totally fine with MU going after Mannion.  But if not, MU could very well end up with neither.

If Mannion reopens things and MU goes after Mannion again, I see more downside than upside.  I'll gladly take the bird in hand.

Agree with everything you said. But the flip side to this is, maybe Wojo discusses it with Symir, and his response is, "I'd love to play alongside Mannion, go get him coach".

If so, then you go get another 5-star. Stay committed, and in constant communication with all birds in hand.

If he shows up at the front door and you have an open scholy, take him.  Mannion and Smyr can play together for a year or so.  If he is that good, why not.  Particularly
if Markus leaves.

So we shouldn't accept the #10 player in the 2019 class because the #50 player in the 2020 class could get pissed off?

That's not how coaches think.

Teams always looking for players as you never know who will transfer or leave for the NBA.  Second season for recruiting grad transfers and transfers starts in 45
days for so.  Always fluid.

Is all this pure speculation?? Or.. what's hinting at the fact he may decommit? Let alone want to come here ?

Yes.   No hints.   Just speculation due to rumored infractions by Sean Miller.    MU was in his final group.

This feels like a new level of ultra-speculation, even for Scoop. It assumes:

1. The NCAA somehow manages to wrap up its inquiry into Arizona's college basketball program relatively quickly (presumably within the next 10 months, before the 2019-20 season begins).
2. The NCAA finds that Miller and Arizona violated NCAA policies.
3. The NCAA imposes sanctions on Miller and Arizona.
4. The sanctions are serious enough that Nico Mannion decides to reopen his recruitment.
5. The NCAA grants Mannion's request to reopen his commitment.
6. Nico Mannion includes Marquette among the schools he's interested in.

Did I miss anything? In my opinion, there's no need to progress beyond point one. I think Arizona could get nailed here. But it's not likely to happen before next season starts.
