I'm in an ingredient rebel and structure orthodox. I don't care what you put in it, but it has to be something between two separate pieces of the same thing. A hot dog is only a sandwich if you separate the bun.

A Philly cheesesteak isn't a sandwich to you??  Unless you break apart the bread into two pieces??

Are the ingredients not between the sides of the tortilla? Are you eating your tacos lying open and flat with a knife and fork? Who's the heretic now?

So, would a quesadilla be a sandwich?

Mexican grilled cheese, absolutely.

This is all covered by the cube rule

Subway, cheesesteaks, and hot dogs are all forms of tacos unless you break the bun apart.

A quesadilla, if it's closed like a mexican quesadilla, is a calzone (much like poptarts). If it's open like american quesadillas then its a taco

Yup.  World is doomed, now people need rules for their food.  Eat & enjoy...until we can't.

Excuse me but if a taco or quesadilla is a sandwich why do tortas exist? If a taco is a sandwich is moo shu pork as well?

If you make your taco into a torta it's a sandwich. But one tortilla equals a taco, a second cousin of the sandwich

What is the best Mexican beer?  Maybe I should have gotten a Tecate.

Galway Eagle

Celebrated with a Fried Willapa Bay oyster, Salsa Veracruzana made with tomato, olives, capers, orange and guajillo on a hand-pressed squid ink tortilla taco

And grilled Amish chicken thighs en adobo, fresh fennel slaw, radish, pina-habanero salsa. Served with three hand rolled chicken fat flour tortillas

With a mezcal Paloma

Also a hot dog, taco, Italian beef, Philly cheese steak are all not sandwiches till the bread breaks.

If I'm reading correctly,  that's an open faced sandwich, sandwiches most awkward cousin

In honor of this thread, I did not cut all of the way through the hamburger bun I had for dinner so the burger would not be a sandwich.

If that's the case then a traditional taco is just a folded up open faced sandwich.
