Quote from: JWags85 on March 07, 2025, 08:22:17 PMOh I don't know if I agree with that at all.  Roman was an emotionally stunted guy with mommy issues who channeled his issues into snark and random outbursts of cruelty.

Benji is emotionally a mess, but shows way more emotional depth and vulnerability, is very charming and charismatic, the classic well meaning but misguided soul.

They both have dry/snarky senses of humor, I'll get that, but I don't see them much the same otherwise, except for Culkin's mannerisms (he loves the sheepish/exasperated rubbing the back of his head)

OK.

Invincible s3 phenomenal. Best season imo.

Reacher s3, still the same enjoyable show for what it is. Still think weekly releases is mental for this show.

White Lotus has me very intrigued halfway through with where its building.

Gemstones had quite the wildcard first ep, very excited for this final season though.

Finally rewatched Severance s1 and now through 4 eps of 2. Man this show rocks. Ep 4 the retreat one, was excellent. Tuturro so good.

Yeah, watching lotta TV right now.

Bingewatched "Adolescence" in one night (It's 4 episodes)

Fascinating and devastating.

That's tenacious of you. I watched the first ep and was like "oof, okay time to put that away for a bit."

Anyone catch the Season 2 finale of Severence?

I thought it was outstanding. I'm really curious how they will wrap it up next season.

Alright, I love White Lotus, like love it, but I'm three episodes into the current season and what the heck is going on. Please tell me it gets better, I need to convince the wife that we need to keep on it.

Also, thought Paradise was good not great (could have been for sure, and our friends love it, I think I like Silo better,
I think), someone got us watching Designated Survivor, not a Kiefer Sutherland fan, but the show is intriguing and light at the same time. Our 18yo told us to watch Temptation Island, hoping it's as good and as bonkers as Love is Blind! Can't wait for the next season of Love on the Spectrum, maybe my favorite show at the moment.

Fantastic finale.

S2 had some bad eps where it kinda just dragged and was unnecessary.

But the highs are the highest on tv. Ep 4 7, 9, 10 were all amazing tv

Episode 8 dragged in the middle of a great end to the season.

Trying to avoid spoilers... Had it not been given a third season, I think they would have simply wrapped it up by going the other way with Mark's decision.

I also was a bit down on E8...until the final five minutes. I felt that the reveal at the end of that episode was worth the detour they took. I'm aware that I'm in the minority on that point.

I think exactly the opposite.* I think that the way it ended could have been a somewhat satisfactory conclusion to the series. I don't feel "going the other way" would have been as satisfying for me. But that just illustrates the tightrope they're going to need walk in order to wrap this up in a completely satisfactory way (if that's even possible). I'm not sure how they reach a conclusion that will feel like it effectively resolves the main plot line but also honors the main theme that has emerged. Obviously, I am being intentionally vague but I suspect you understand what I'm getting at. I think my view on the end of the finale is because I'm more interested in the theme than the plot -- although I'm hopeful that they'll stick the landing on both.

*Edited to clarify that I think that you may be right -- they may have gone the other way if this had been the end. I just wouldn't have liked that end as much.

To me it's standard lotus. Flawed characters unraveling in bizarre situations in a slow burn narrative. I'm caught up and have enjoyed it. Could argue a little slower than the others since it's more eps but I do think there's more plot.

I'm very intrigued how it wraps up.

Don't feel there's much point to give up when it's only 8 eps and a guaranteed conclusion. But sounds like you have a reason for really not enjoying as much.

I think story or oddities aside, this has been the best acted season of White Lotus.  Season 1 and 2 were great and had good performances, but its been fantastic across the board this season.

Jason Issacs has been fantastic.  Goggins has been great, as always.  The trio of Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, and Michelle Monaghan have been incredible at nailing the subtle nuances of that type of group.  Parker Posey has been absolutely unreal, absurd and hilarious, but absolutely dead on that type of person without it being a caricature.  All the main cast has been really really good.

And surprisingly, Little Schwarzenegger is the breakout star of the season.  His physical and facial acting/mannerisms have been tremendous and I'm seeing similar praise and pleasant surprise all over the internet.

100% agree. Past seasons while the acting has always been good, most of the emmy noms were a complete farce. It was just 1 of the couple of the shows the Emmys decided to nom an entire cast for that they do most years. This season like everyone is deserving of awards

The cameo(turn more full guest role) incredible too.

Also,

the new show The studio is definitely up to the hype.

Fantastic first two eps. Rogen and Golberg are usually very dependable with their projects but this is another level. The guest stars are gonna be wild all season it appears.

Totally agree, it's my kind of show, I just didn't quite know what to say to my wife to keep her on board. For context, she felt the same halfway through Severance S2. I will say, someone else mentioned Parker Posey. From my wife to me, "I know you LOVE her, but I just can't." Maybe it's as simple as she ain't in to PP. On to the next episode, gotta catch up!

The Righteous Gemstones just doesn't miss, I'm doing a rewatch, and watching the final season, seems like every episode I have a new favorite character.

If I had power rank my all-time top 5.

1.) Judy Lee
2.) Uncle Baby Billy
3.) Jesse
4.) BJ
5.) Kelvin

Honorable mentions: The Lissons from season 2, Keefe and Amber.

Its so f-ing good.  Danny McBride has played a similar vein of character from Kenny Powers to Neal Gamby in Vice Principals to Jesse now...but its so funny, so consistently strong in the improv and absurdity to how he plays off other characters, its remarkable.  And the trifecta of Mcbride, Adam Devine, and Edi Patterson (Judy) have gotten so good with each other that their improv is just a finely tuned dance.

Season has been stellar so far, but the scene on the boat when they track down Eli has to be my favorite.  Jesse's line about Margaritaville into a Robinson Caruso into an extended riff about Castaway and "hisself" was just art.

Did you see on the revenge of the nerds hat on Eli's hat-wall on the boat?  Very impressive attention to detail.

Hisself 😂, and the way they opened this season (no spoilers), but wow, took a huge swing and connected.
