So in ACV, there's a character that was based upon another famous Aussie "health guru" (different name used in the show) who, after doing her own research, believed her cancer was cured by juicing, organic food, and five coffee enemas a day. She got a book deal, became a popular speaker across Australia, and even convinced her mother to follow the same path when she was diagnosed with cancer. It didn't turn out well for either in the end.

People can be excused for wanting the snake oil. They are at a vulnerable place in their lives and the thought of surgery and prolonged radiation/chemo is downright frightening to anyone.

What can't be excused are the scumbags who prey on people's fears. They are knowingly helping kill people for a few bucks.

More money. More money. Not just an American problem.

Loving invincible s3.

Night agent s2 was brutal. No clue what they were thinking on that after a surprise s1.

Still have to rewatch severance s1 before I dive into 2.

Lots of tv in the very near future I want to watch with severance, white lotus, reacher and the new daredevil. Good lead up to MM.

It's stupid, but in a nostalgic kinda way, the last part of the final season of Cobra Kai dropped, and I'll watch it all, and probably forget all about it in a day or two.

Late to the party, but had a HBO free preview and binged The Penguin, hot damn was that some good TV.

I've enjoyed Cobra Kai throughout its run though it has gone one season too long. The "high school" kids are now older than the class of West Beverly Hills High back in the day.

The Pitt on Max is good.  The medical professional wife doesn't yell at the TV about how unrealistic everything is, so seems like medically it might be at least somewhat realistic?

She'll yell about how unrealistically quickly they can intubate a patient in Chicago Med (because everyone wants to watch an hour long show entirely on intubating a patient?) but somehow doesn't seem to have a problem when a resident intentionally cuts power to a patient's cardiac monitor in an attempt to get him a heart transplant, killing him, and being allowed to continue with her residency program (Grey's Anatomy).

If she wants accuracy, maybe the entire hour (or the first 3 episodes) can just film someone in the waiting room 😂

My RN wife likes The Pitt, says it's about as realistic as one can expect from a TV medical show. Still, she (and I) acknowledge that there are some unbelievable things, the first being how incompetent the nervous male intern is. "He's not even qualified to clip nails for a dog groomer," she said last night.

The Pitt is especially good TV when compared to "Doc," which starts with a ridiculous premise, is filled with hospital scenes that simply couldn't happen in real life, and plays like a soap opera. We watch that one on Hulu, too, though mostly to make fun of it.

Just quickly looking at Hulu Live, it appears I can get that bundled with Disney+ and ESPN+ for the same amount as YTTV.

Anyone here have experience with Hulu Live?

I used it when it was new, and the interface and speed switching channels was miles behind YTTV at the time. No recent experience.

I'm also interested in finding a YTTV alternative, even though I'm confident they'll figure it out with Paramount soon.

They actually have already come to a short-term agreement. Details are sketchy, but it apparently will go at least through the Masters.

Quote from: MuggsyB on February 01, 2025, 11:07:59 AMHas anyone seen The Brutalist?

I want to see it. But it's a big time investment if it isn't good.

Did you?

I know it's reportably "slow" but I'm usually okay with slow - if it's good slow. And sometimes slow is part of what makes something good. And sometimes slow is just someone that wants action and bombs and car chases instead of quality character development being revealed over the coarse of events or someone finding their character because of events and how they behave and react. That can take time and be slow but that is what is needed.

SNL 50th marathon long show that moved along very quickly.

Quote from: MU Fan in Connecticut on February 17, 2025, 05:22:40 AMSNL 50th marathon long show that we very quickly.

I really enjoyed it. Frankly, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, because so many SNL episodes fail to be amusing after the first 30-45 minutes (a notion that actually was mocked during this special). So I wondered if they could pull off a 3-hour special. Well, they did, and it was mostly wonderful.

There were lots of funny bits, self-deprecating references, stars cracking each other up, and also many touching moments. It appeared Tom Hanks was gonna introduce an Oscars-style "In Memoriam" montage, but instead it was a bit about all the politically incorrect characters and sketches over the years - really clever. Near the end, they did run a film featuring an "aging" Belushi visiting the graves of his fellow cast members; I remember having seen it decades ago, but it was a bit chilling to see it again.

Will Farrell, Eddie Murphy and Kate McKinnon were especially funny IMHO. Adam Sandler's really good tribute song to past cast members included a mention of "six years of our boy Farley, five of our buddy Norm," and the photo montage showed Farley in a Marquette shirt.

I hate to say this because I grew up enthralled with their work, but both Pauls - McCartney and Simon - struggled. At least Simon's weak voice had a wistful tone as he did a Homeward Bound duet with Sabrina Carpenter. But McCartney ... ouch. It was almost like a bad karaoke parody.

All in all, though, a great retrospective of a show that, starting 50 years ago, all but defined comedy for many of us - myself included way back when.

I can only watch SNL when I can fast forward through the awful skits.

Shortens a 90 minute show down to about 20.  Last night had some nice moments, but by the 3rd hour, I was done.

White Lotus is as a really solid premiere set up.

Intriguing plots to see where they go.

And per usual. Throw Goggins on screen and I'm in.

Ive only saw bits and pieces, but Eddie doing Tracy Morgan in front of Tracy Morgan was absolutely amazing.  You could tell half of it was Eddie riffing off the cuff and killing everyone.  He may not have the chops to make great movies anymore, but he's still someone who can absolutely crush in any scenario being naturally funny.

He's been mega famous for 30 years and Ive yet to hear a single negative story or anecdote about him.  Even the social media era where people slam random celebs with vague stories about being rude at Erewhon or not smiling at an airport, Ive never read anything unflattering.

I know one person who played pick up with him twice in NYC and said he was the most normal unassuming dude who was a vocal and supportive teammate, but would randomly crack a one liner that always killed.

Yeah hes pretty universally adored among the masses.

I actually know a handful of people who have had encounters with him. 2 of them are friends who have service industry jobs in major cities(hotels and restaurants) and they have dealt with him and his entourage multiple times and have said hes the gold standard of celebs. Always one of the first named when people ask them about the good ones.

Just caught up and watched the most recent episode of Paradise on Hulu.

Fun thriller filled with twists and turns, and the lead actors (Sterling K. Brown and Julianne Nicholson) are great.

Two more episodes left in the season, and they just announced that it's been picked up for S2.

While waiting for a lot of my main shows to stack up some eps.

I started that Paradise show. Not super original and not sure its that great through two eps. But the acting is very good and its intriguing. So worth the 8 ep commitment.
