Gearing up to watch Andor S2 to learn how the empire conducts month-end close.

Quote from: PGsHeroes32 on February 24, 2025, 09:00:37 PMWhile waiting for a lot of my main shows to stack up some eps.

I started that Paradise show. Not super original and not sure its that great through two eps. But the acting is very good and its intriguing. So worth the 8 ep commitment.

Alright. No sure if anyone else is watching this. But this is one of the more bizarrely intriguing shows I've seen in a while. Wildly inconsistent. Cliches. Mysteries. Greatness sprinkled in.

Excellent pilot
Very boring set up 2 and 3rd eps
Great 4th ep of character development. With an imo Baffling decision.
Solid 5th and 6th eps. With flaws.

There's always reason to keep wanting to know more and watch. Even if there's loads of amateur writing and plot armor.

Now episode 7 yesterday, one of the best tv episodes in years. If not more.

So strange

I agree, PG.

Uneven show, but Ep. 7 was absolutely dynamite. It compares favorable to the 1st season Ep.6 (I believe) of True Detective.

A few to add to my watching list:
St. Denis Medical
and the new season of Reacher launched last week.

We're watching St. Denis as well.  My wife likes it more than me.  I don't dislike it, but I don't think it's anything special.  Some episodes are definitely better than others.  The one with the inmates in the same hospital room was my favorite so far.

Just signed up for Apple+. Just completed watching SILO seasons 1 and 2 and looking forward to seasons 3 and 4.

I really enjoyed the heart warming 2021 Academy Award for best picture CODA.

Saw The Conclave yesterday.  Thought it was very good.

I know the Oscar's are a joke overall and just a way for egos to be stroked and to take care of those with connections.

But yikes apparently the voting is more flawed the hall of fame voters ballots

Multiple voters exposed for not even seeing Dune 2 because dune 1 was too long.

Multiple voters admitting they didn't vote Finnes for best actor because he's already won for schindlers

Dumb logic, and he hasn't won before

Like I said it doesn't matter to the masses. But bizarre how people just put themselves as morons.

I'm at the same spot with St Denis. Its not bad but we've gotten behind a few episodes because it hasn't blown me away yet. That being said, former Office writers have a good history of just ok 1st seasons but things really picking up on the 2nd season and Justin Spitzer (former Office writer and Superstore creator) has earned enough in my book that I'll give it another season to see how it goes.

Progressive Catholics, lapsed Catholics and non-Catholics will like the movie, but traditional Catholics not so much. The final 30 minutes just spiraled to an implausible but predictable Hollywood ending. I am glad I saw it on Peacock and not in a theatre.

Did anyone expect this to be a believable story?  I guess if people did they'd be disappointed...

To be honest, much worse things have happened in the Catholic Church than any of the issues in the movie.

Oh Im not saying overall results are wrong.

Just more the hilarity and nonsense of the overall vote.

Fiennes really shouldnt win best actor this year imo. But to hear that as the reason two people didn't vote him is comical.

Totally agree. Edge-of-seat stuff, superbly presented. I'm hoping E8 doesn't disappoint.

We stopped watching it. From what we saw, it's The Office ... except that it rarely even made us chuckle.

Also watched September 5 which I enjoyed.

Watched the Ruby Franke documentary on Hulu.  Still don't understand how the dad doesn't have some kind of charges.  Even before she had him move out, there was clearly some neglect and abuse towards the kids in that house going on.

We take live satellite communication for granted today, but back then it was a technological marvel. Jim Mckay really shined and ABC sports showed the world what a class act they were. I thought the film was a little over the top criticizing the German authorities as I am not sure any other country including our own could have handled that situation any better. Those hostages once captured were already dead as the Black September group were all willing to die to get the prisoners freed from Israeli jails. It was the first act of terrorism displayed on the world stage.

The 2006 film, Munich, demonstrated Israel's resolve at eliminating the individual masterminds behind that plot as it took many years and two managed to escape Israeli "justice".

Im not the most avid movie buff, I enjoy them, but I'm not one of those people who make it a mission to watch all the best picture nominees and whatnot, but its been awhile since Ive been so confused by the "marquee" films.

Anora was a resounding...fine.  I watched it a few months ago when people were buzzing about it and was entirely underwhelmed.  Its an entertaining watch I guess, but people were talking about watching it multiple times and being so enamored with it and I just don't get it.  Mikey Madison was good, but again, nothing truly memorable for me.

Emilia Perez was, IMO, absolute garbage.  I don't need to get into the controversies of the plot or portrayal of the cartel world, I just remember going into it not hearing much about it and 2-3 times in the first 30 min going "WTF is going on".

On the other hand, A Real Pain was a tremendous film and both Eisenberg and Culkin were fantastic, so that at least made sense.

Nickel Boys was probably the most slept on of the nominees, unfortunately.

I actually think Anora is a really good movie. But agree with you overall. Perez sucks and it was not a good list of noms. Lot of heavy hitter directors and actors took the year off.

Also agreed about A Real Pain awesome movie. And while Culkin deserves everything, Eisenberg being very slept on for how good he was too. Similar imo to years ago Whiplash(another fantastic movie) where Simmons as the loud mouth got all the praise awards time while Teller was ignored.

I really liked both Anora and A Real Pain. I thought Mikey Madison was very good. Kieran Culkin was great, but I couldn't really dispute my wife when she said his character basically was a movie version of Roman on Succession.

Didn't see Emilia Perez but probably will eventually. I'll go in with low expectations.

Oh I don't know if I agree with that at all.  Roman was an emotionally stunted guy with mommy issues who channeled his issues into snark and random outbursts of cruelty.

Benji is emotionally a mess, but shows way more emotional depth and vulnerability, is very charming and charismatic, the classic well meaning but misguided soul.

They both have dry/snarky senses of humor, I'll get that, but I don't see them much the same otherwise, except for Culkin's mannerisms (he loves the sheepish/exasperated rubbing the back of his head)
