Just completed another fun season of Reacher. That show cracks me up, and lots of great (though sometimes cartoonishly over-the-top) action.

The fight between Reacher and Paulie in the season finale was an all-timer!

Perfect review.  And Paulie is a monster.  7'2" 350 with no fat.  Makes Alan Richter -who looks enromous compared to everyone else on the show (6'3" 235) - look like a gnat.

HBO (or Max, or whatever it's called) often runs house ads. And the one for White Lotus includes clips of reviewers' headlines. Among the touts: "Uproariously funny!" "Hilarious!" "Bitingly hilarious!"

I mean, it's not especially funny. A couple times an episode, my wife or I might chuckle. It's mostly a melodrama - a v-e-r-r-r-r-y slow melodrama.

I mostly agree with this from Paul Tassi of Forbes under the headline: 'The White Lotus' Season 3 Has Turned Out To Be Bad which he wrote after Episode 5 ...

https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2025/03/18/the-white-lotus-season-3-has-turned-out-to-be-bad/?

As a huge fan of The White Lotus, and almost every cast member added for season 3, I have been slowly sinking into an unexpected feeling. Season 3 of this show is just not very good. Despite its cast, despite its new location and two excellent seasons before this, something is just not working here, and that is becoming more and more apparent with each new week.

The main issue I have here is that The White Lotus has thrown out almost all pretext of being a comedy. Instead it's just a 98% pure drama filled with messed up relationships only occasionally dipping into something legitimately funny once an episode, at best. That has always been true to a certain extent, but the ratio is now so heavily skewed it feels like an entirely different show.

I know that plenty of folks disagree with this writer (and me) about White Lotus. And I guess I'm the real sucker - I will finish watching the series because at this point I guess I need to see how it ends.

Curious to hear what others have thought about the season.

FWIW, I thought that Season 1 was very overrated and that Season 2 was better but still not great.

Almost done with The Residence on Netflix and can't recommend it enough. Reminiscent of Only Murders in the Building/Knives Out crossed with Wes Anderson dialogue.

I won't bother with White Lotus. 1st 2 seasons were pretty boring.

I second this. My wife and I started this weekend and thought it was great. I think we're only 2-3 episodes in.

Quote from: JWags85 on March 27, 2025, 02:56:04 PMIts so f-ing good.  Danny McBride has played a similar vein of character from Kenny Powers to Neal Gamby in Vice Principals to Jesse now...but its so funny, so consistently strong in the improv and absurdity to how he plays off other characters, its remarkable.  And the trifecta of Mcbride, Adam Devine, and Edi Patterson (Judy) have gotten so good with each other that their improv is just a finely tuned dance.

Season has been stellar so far, but the scene on the boat when they track down Eli has to be my favorite.  Jesse's line about Margaritaville into a Robinson Caruso into an extended riff about Castaway and "hisself" was just art.

Sundays episode might be the most I've laughed in a long time.

1. Judy's scene with Ms. Lori
1a. Jesse arguing with Amber about if she died and he started dating her best friend.
2. Uncle baby Billy, as a parent, interactions with the nanny, the cybertruck, the waterskiiing 😂
3. Keef being a ghost
4. BJ wheelchair bound and being completely ignored

And don't want to even spoil the last scene, but wow 😂

Season 2 of Dark Winds on Netflix is very good.

Watched the first two episodes of The Bondsman on Prime, starring Kevin Bacon. Outrageous concept - he's a dead bounty hunter, pulled from hell so he can hunt demons for the devil - and quite a few laughs so far. Only half-hour episodes, so easy to fit in between watching hour-long stuff.

Final season of Bosch is on Prime. Not great TV but easy to watch.

I'm not deeply into the Marvel universe at all, and I never watched a second of the Netflix series, but I'm enjoying Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. Good acting by the two leads, and a dark tone that reminds me of Gotham (which I liked).

My wife started watching Adolescence last week .. she was .. casually watching, as was I.  Didn't get into it.

A few days ago, I backed up and watched it without distraction.

Wow.  Brutal.  Just gutting.

Watched House of David on Amazon which is kind of a misnomer as it is more about the House of Saul.

I think the show is wonderful and overall very beneficial for awareness and the greater autistic community, but its a bit of a hard watch for me when I've tried.  And that's ok.

That being said, Connor is a national treasure and a star.  I'll watch any clip of him that I ever come across.  Genuinely hilarious individual.

Unrelated, I have a bunch of White Lotus finale thoughts but I'll wait another few days for people to watch.

Fascinating and devastating.

My wife and I didn't binge-watch Adolescence the way you did but we did watch it over 3 nights. Your description of it is perfect.

Episode 3, which consisted entirely of Jamie's conversation with the psychologist, is probably my choice as best episode of television in the last year. I can't say enough about the abilities of both actors, as well as the writers. Episode 4 was incredible and heartbreaking and exhausting.

One need not be a parent to get something from watching Adolescence. But being a parent - as well as someone who coaches kids Jamie's age - the whole thing really resonated.

Connor's story arc this season was absolutely fantastic. If you enjoy him, it's worth the watch even if you fast forward through everything else.

My 10 year old daughter and wife have loved watching it together (we have a few special needs family members so it resonates that much more.)

It was hyped a few weeks back, but The Pitt has been great, very tough at times, but exceptionally well written and acted.  Season 2 will be ready by Jan. 2026 taking place over 4th of July weekend 😮💨 (same format, 15 episodes each representing an hour of a shift.)

Mind the Game is outstanding for real basketball fans.

The 1st season is LeBron & JJ Reddick. The 2nd is Lebron & Steve Nash. The conversation about the utter greatness of Steph and Draymond is worth the price of admission.

As one example, I was both surprised & not surprised to learn that for several years, Draymond was the most efficient low post player in the NBA. Conventional thinking might make one think the answer to stopping Steph would be to double using Draymond's defender since he was never much of a shooting threat. They explain why that would be such a bad idea.

Started watching Your Friends and Neighbors on Apple+.

It is about a 1 percenter who catches his wife in bed with a 3x NBA all-star, gets divorced, gets screwed out of his lucrative investment job by sleeping with a co-worker and starts robbing his neighbors to make ends meet. There is more to the character and plot than just that, but the first 2 eps piqued my interest.

The Studio is still a fantastic comedic but also real look at Hollywood. Amazingly shot.

Also saw Warfare this weekend. Fantastic movie. My current #1. No music. Straight 1.5 hours of tension. Incredible acting.

Episode 1 of TLOU is in the books. Really enjoyed it, and thought they did a good job of setting up what's to come this season.

Adding Catherine O'Hara and Kaitlyn Dever ... that's some great casting. I'm already digging their characters, and Dever's character is set up to be a real bad-azz.

My only nit is small - it seems like Ellie is WAY too pissed at Joel. But even that, I'm curious to see how it plays out.
