Outstanding response by Sam after a shooting slump knocked him out of the Celtics' rotation. The absences of Jaylen Brown (illness) and Marcus Smart (ankle) gave him the opportunity, and Sam made the most of it.

''It kind of took me by surprise,'' he told reporters afterward. ''I thought they would maybe plug someone else in to start. They called my number and I was ready for it. It was my first start ever in the NBA, and it was a cool moment.''
