That is amazing news.  Getting off a ventilator is no small miracle!

Yep, I was happy to hear it. It will be awhile before he's completely out of the woods in the short-term, and if they know if there was any permanent lung damage for the long-term. I'm hoping for the best.

Skip ahead to 9:00 and enjoy.

Wow.  That was absolutely fantastic.

While I really try to not envy the rich and famous for the things they have, I honestly do envy their ability to simply make someone's day (week? life?).

Here's one unexpected benefit:

Allstate and American Family are giving customers partial refunds. People are driving so little, that the accident rate has been materially affected (to the downside).

This is a good PR move, and I hope every insurer does it.

It's easier than you think.

Our office got shut down well before the official order, and I was feeling sorry for myself because it also meant that my retirement party was cancelled.  I knew that I would not be coming into the office for the rest of the month, so after I got off the train, I pulled the monthly parking tag out of my car (there is a two-year wait for those in my lot), walked over to the daily parking area, and handed it to a random person.  They acted like I had just given them a thousand dollars.  And it improved my own mood dramatically.

Have some patience, FFS.

Here in MN, residents are still observing the "last piece" rule:

https://www.mprnews.org/story/2020/04/07/daily-dose-of-sweetness-minnesotans-cant-stop-being-minnesotans-wont-take-last-of-anything

Sure, Minnesotans have been out stocking up at the grocery stores, making sure they have the necessities. But they just can’t shake the “last piece” rule. (For nonlocals, Minnesota law dictates that you leave the last bite or the last piece for the next person. It’s the polite thing to do.)

Minnesota Nice also dictates that you quietly loathe the person that gets the last piece.    ;D ;D

IIRC, the estimate was that Allstate and Amfam are saving $1b per month because traffic is WAY down, so accidents are down, insurance claims, way down.

If $200m is the refund .. they're having a party with the other $800m.

Because of course.

Don't worry, health insurance premiums are going to skyrocket next year to offset any auto insurance refund.

Amfam isn't that big to be saving $1b per month.  State Farm, Allstate and the lizard might be.

Given that when there's a big hurricane or other expensive natural disaster, they don't go around and collect additional premiums from everyone, I am fine with this.  They didn't have to give out a penny.

You mean something other than running away screaming that the end is here?

C'mon, Tower. I caught you being almost as snarky as me. :)

Well,.... maybe only 10% as snarky, but it's a start.

Last month was the first March without a school shooting since 2002.
So, there's some good news.

Yeah, you're right. I didn't mean he said it to me. I was just teasing him because he is probably the most level-headed guy on the board.
