Was able to successfully place an online order from Mariano's for delivery next Tuesday, including toilet paper, disinfectant wipes, and all the food I wanted. They prevented you from buying TP/wipes in bulk, which is smart.
Fingers crossed I actually get all of that stuff.

I have seen the same increase in people out walking, running, biking, shooting hoops and such. People are staying at a safe distance, but seem to be in a good place when they're outside.
Certainly a welcome break from the stress of the news....

A team from across the University of Florida is creating an open-source ventilator that can be built in 15 minutes for $125.

And I have seen reports where initially it may only be 1,000 a day.

Dearborn Denim - a Chicago-based manufacturer of blue jeans - is also making masks, and offering them free to medical personnel.
As an aside, they also make really nice jeans right in Chicago. More expensive than brands made elsewhere, but a lot more reasonable than other made in USA jeans I've seen. Just ordered a couple of pairs the other day.

It's easier than you think.
Our office got shut down well before the official order, and I was feeling sorry for myself because it also meant that my retirement party was cancelled. I knew that I would not be coming into the office for the rest of the month, so after I got off the train, I pulled the monthly parking tag out of my car (there is a two-year wait for those in my lot), walked over to the daily parking area, and handed it to a random person. They acted like I had just given them a thousand dollars. And it improved my own mood dramatically.

Zero risk isn’t possible, but I would be shocked if .1% die from Covid without any co morbidities. Expect it will be much lower than that.

Pretty great. The Shedd Aquarium has been incredible on social media during the pandemic. Bringing the penguins around the aquarium and posting videos of them being excited or perplexed by the various exhibits and other animals standing or swimming in front of them. Some of otters in the halls as well

Five straight days in my county -- Mecklenburg, the largest in NC -- without a COVID-19 death.
I think our governor and our county leaders have done about as good a job as can be done with handling a brutally difficult situation like this. I am proud of those who have used social distancing, have worn masks, have stayed at home whenever possible, etc, so we can try to get out of this horrible crisis.
A week from today, if all continues improving, we will go to Phase 2, which will open up the majority of the economy. Fingers crossed.

A worker at a Costco store is being praised on social media for calmly deescalating a battle with an angry customer who refused to wear a mask while shopping in the store.
Costco requires all employees and customers to wear a face covering while inside its retail locations. But the customer filmed himself waiting in the checkout line without a mask and berating a worker named Tison who asked him to put one on.
“I’m not doing it because I woke up in a free country,” the customer said after threatening to put the Costco worker on his “3,000-follower Instagram feed.” Tison greeted the man’s Instagram followers, politely told him to have a great day and walked away ― taking the customer’s shopping cart of goods with him.
“You’re no longer welcome here in our warehouse,” Tison said. “You need to leave, thank you very much.”

We just got back from visiting our grand-twins in Chicago. One of them started running a fever on Sunday, and it spiked on Monday to near 104. They took him in yesterday for a test, just to make sure. Just found out it was negative!

I believe it is a tribute to that magazine, which as a kid, I always thought of as a cheap Mad ripoff.

My wife is a pediatric RN for the largest hospital group in the Southeast. Today, all of the doctors, and many of the PAs, nurse practitioners and RNs, staged a “white coats for black lives” memorial for George Floyd and other victims, as well as a show of support for those still trying to persevere through systemic racism.
At the designated time, each took a knee for 8 minutes, 46 seconds.
The doctors and many other health-care workers did it outside on the grounds so everyone passing by in cars or on foot could see them. Others who couldn’t get outside took a knee inside the hospital.
My wife said it was an incredible sight and experience.

The biggest thing to me with testing is how soon the results get back on those that are asymptomatic or been exposed. common sense should come into play for those that are sick. That is why the rapid saliva tests could be huge going forward.

I’m no epidemiologist, but neither are you two.
Personally I think you are both right. Spread is down (less positives overall, same positivity rate). This has led to stabilization or declines in hospitalization rate (guess since FL data isn’t as easy to find). Which means lower deaths coming.
However the situation today still is a high base of spread since the positivity rates are so high. So good job but if FL starts relaxing rules or create spread areas (like schools), the gains can be reversed quickly.

I can’t speak for Texas, Arizona and NC I suspect your conspiracy theory is also wrong about them but I’m not sure. Again if the same amount of people are getting sick and this is just a case of a halt in testing hospitalizations and deaths will remain constant. If not, they will drop. Stay tuned.

While it is true we are getting better at treating patients, don't read too much into charts like that. The chart reports survival of ICU patients.
Early on, hospitals were only swamped, so only the most dire of cases were being sent to ICUs. Those had and still do have poor survival statistics. Now, healthier patients are being moved to ICUs, because of fewer cases and higher capacity. That means just by virtue of healthier patients occupying ICU beds, the statistics would improve.

I agreed with you back then...so no argument that FL has turned a corner. However, I am not sure that we can declare Skat wrong. The magnitude of the decline in deaths should be more with the continued decline of cases -- and now there is an uplift positive test percent too. All not a good sign that FL has a handle on how much spread is out there.
Contrast that with TX and AZ that are seeing positivity decrease with similar to slightly lower # of tests. Much better sign.
