The WSJ article was published Friday. Here's the link: https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/trump-tariffs-reciprocal-exemptions-e36f1216?

From the article:

The offer to exempt more products from tariffs reflects a growing sentiment among administration officials that the U.S. should lower levies on goods that it doesn't domestically produce, say people familiar with administration planning. That notion "has been emerging over time" within the administration, said Everett Eissenstat, deputy director of the National Economic Council in Trump's first term. "There is definitely that recognition."

The move comes ahead of a Supreme Court hearing in early November on the reciprocal tariffs—a case that could force the administration to pay back many of the levies if it loses in court. ... The shift on the reciprocal tariffs reflects the Trump team's desire to hedge its bets should the court strike down its broad levies, according to people familiar with the administration's thinking.

Gold is down more than 7% since hitting its all-time high a few days ago. Its nearly 6% loss Monday was gold's largest 1-day decline since 2013.

Not sure that "matters," just a reminder that no investment goes up unabated.

I said at the time the extreme run up made me nervous. That said, I don't think its run is done.  I don't see any change likely that will reestablish confidence in the fiscal sanity of the U.S.

From an investing standpoint, following the cronyism that Muggsy hates seems logical, tbh

There weren't any more Jan. 6 terrorists available to pardon.

But at least George Santos is free to pursue a spot on the U.S. Olympic volleyball team.

Correct.  We have more effective ways of dealing with "undesirables" by just "losing" them.  But you need concentration camps first, so that's why investing in those companies is a good idea, imo

Depends on what "substantial" means. And of course what he had to give up in return.

This sounds like another "win" that entails us either giving up stuff, or returning to what was being done before, in exchange for China buying what they always did, but likely at a lower volume, because they've diversified already.

So they get what we need and we get part of what we used to have back.

Love these "winning" deals.
