This was a telling quote from Karlen in the article I posted earlier:

I want to go do a fifth year. I want to experience what it's like to play in March and to go far in March and not, like, hope that you're going to make the Tournament

I wish her the best and will be pulling for her at Notre Dame.  Her top 3 when she was transferring were USC, UCONN and Notre Dame - that's quite the list.

Liza Karlen along with Miles, Citron, Westbeld, Hidalgo, King, Koval, Bransford, will have Final Four potential for Notre Dame.

Kenzie Hare along with Ryan, Crooks, Brown, Harris, Hansford, Taulelei will have top 10 potential for Iowa State.

Charlotte was one of her first offers a few years ago. Duffy's staff recruited her to Marquette. So it makes sense she was re-offered. Now Duffy is recruiting her to Virginia Tech. And, new Virginia Tech assistant Zoll-Norman previously recruited her to Penn State, one of her other finalists.

So it will be a good head to head for Marquette, Virginia Tech, and a few others. Louisville, UVA, Illinois, Penn State.

Justine Raterman has been in discussions with Michigan regarding an assistant coaching position.

It's nice to see the FB updates as the team has started their Summer sessions with the new teammates ! ! !

Anyone heard anything about 24-25 season tickets yet?

Ardmore Mug

Spoke to the tickets office the other day. They said that They don't have the schedule set as of yet, due to the coaching change. Ticket office said Duffy didn't do anything about the non-con games. So they are trying to put something together.  8-)

Oh lovely - this sure is going to be one interesting season.  I was hoping they'd put together a season ticket event with Consuegra over the summer like they did when Duffy was in her first year.  But guessing I would have heard about that by now had they been planning on doing that.  Thanks for the update.

Well the season is almost upon is - they were picked to finish 2nd last in the BE - at least they managed to be picked ahead of perennial cellar dweller Xavier.

We know you wanted a different coach. #donedeal

A coaching change is leading to a rebuilding year. Totally shocking and unacceptable.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

I went to the coaches' luncheon last Thursday. She used a lot of language like "inexperienced", "young", "it takes time", and "getting better" to describe the upcoming season.

Actually this is exactly what I expected this year - I wasn't complaining - just being realistic with expectations.  I wasn't happy initially with how long the hire took but I wasn't unhappy with who they hired.  And at least I know Consuegra wants to be at Marquette which is good.

My comment about getting picked ahead of Xavier at least was I'm still mad that they put Marquette below Xavier in the Coaches poll the first year Duffy was here.  I don't care how much Marquette had graduated - their program was in so much better shape than Xavier's at that point.

Liza Karlen got hurt during a Notre Dame exhibition game and did not play in their season opener.  I'm not sure what the prognosis is for her injury - hoping she's not out for the season.

Ladies lose their opener 57-50 at UCF. Shooting woes seemed to have carried over... Forbes was 3-9 from three, the rest of the team 0-9. Only shot 33% from the floor, 19 TOs.

Interesting that Cara went 10 deep, I didn't get a chance to watch, but I wonder if they pressed a lot. UCF had 27 TOs

I watched a lot of it. No press. Just played a lot of folks. Daughter goes to UCF. Should've paid attention to the schedule. Would have gone up. But daughter was doing tech week for theatre so she wasn't able to go.

Lots of body shaming and similar issues in women's college athletics. I know of a situation where a female representative of the athletics department started traveling with a team to make sure that the coach fed them appropriately.

Oh man...

Quote"She was our biggest enemy, our biggest hater, and she tried her hardest to tear us down," Blockton told Onward Sports. "Every single day we walked into that Al McGuire Center, every single day, you just had a negative feeling.

"And a lot of people didn't want to play basketball, and that messed up a lot of people's mental and careers because of how she treated a lot of people. But a lot of people just pushed through it, and decided to just prevail, because they didn't want her to control their stories. But in each and every way, she affected somebody's career in a negative way at Marquette."

Quote"In my senior year, I was dealing with depressive thoughts and suicidal thoughts," King said. "I was talking to [Kieger] about it, and she dismissed it. And she basically talked me down to go into seeing the student counselor, or the counselor on campus, or whatever. And she was like, 'I just think you need to go to the gym more,' and basically shamed me in saying my work ethic was the reason why I was depressed."

Quote"My leg was broken, and she called my dad and tried to tell my dad that I was lying about my injury. She wouldn't allow me to use crutches," King said. "She called the trainer because the doctor had ordered me to use crutches because on the X-ray, you could see the crack in my shin from her running us all summer and not giving us a break. And she called my dad and told him I was faking the injury and all of this stuff."

The story about the swimming pool is pure insanity.  If some of the girls couldn't swim, what exactly were they trying to teach?  There's a lot of ways to accomplish team building that avoid putting people's physical well-being in danger.
