Even if (hopefully) the university comes around on this.....was anyone in the Athletic Department at least hearing anything? If so, there are some people who have some 'splaining to do.

According to the release by the university, they said they interview each student athlete after the season and don't currently have a reason to act.

Usually takes Penn State about 20+ years to address this kind of stuff.

Former MU player updates:

Liza Karlen got her first PT of the season for Notre Dame tonight in their win over UCONN.  She had suffered an injury in a preseason game - good to see her get a chance to play again.

Kenzie Hare at Iowa State now is going to redshirt due to a hip injury - https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/college/iowa-state/basketball-womens/2024/12/11/kenzie-hare-injury-update-iowa-state-womens-basketball-guard-out-for-rest-of-2024-25-season-cyclones/76932500007/

This is a fun team to watch and they won their 7th in a row today after starting the season 0-2 (one of those wins is against a non-Division 1 opponent).  Now I'm not about to say they are going to compete for an NCAA tournament bid but they have won more non-conference games than I expected them to.  It would be nice to see them at least play in the WNIT - we will see how conference goes.  I do think they'll finish better than their predicted 10th finish in the BE.

Volker had a nice game today with a career high 21 points - 19 in the first half.

Two more non-conference games to go - at Bowling Green Wed and home to Stonehill on Saturday.

They announced that one of their signed recruits for 25-26 was at the game and talked about her high school accolades and showed some highlights on the video board - I don't remember them doing that before.

I saw someone else finally posted in this thread and then see it's just this - oh well :).

I don't post but I do read yours regularly, thanks for the updates...

Longest line I've ever seen to get into the Al which wasn't a surprise.   I'm one of the few here who will actually cheer for Marquette today 😀.  Although I am realistic with my expectations- figuring on a UCONN blowout.

Watching on the FOX app. Camera seems lower than usual.

Skylar Forbes had a pretty good showing against UCONN.  The game was dominated by UCONN as expected - Marquette looked overwhelmed which wasn't a big surprise.  I had a group of kids from Neenah sitting near me to cheer on the UCONN frosh from Neenah - they got to cheer a bit at the end when she scored a couple times.

Now they move on and host a very beatable Butler team on Saturday and then have to go on the road to probably the 2nd best team in the BE - Creighton.  That is the only time they'll face Creighton this season.

Butler at Marquette is on FS1 now but he warned it's ugly so far.  MU is up 10-8 at the end of the first quarter.

Looks like the BE women's version of the Butler- St. Johns game. Crapsetball. Let's hope Marquette wins this somehow, but right now....Butler seems to have the mojo.

Edit: Whew! MU gets the W.

I would appreciate your take on our women's team.

Mason was terrible.  4 missed layups and looked lost on defense.  They were lucky to win.

Marquette probably had no business beating Butler last week but they found a way to pull it out in the end.

This team is better than I was expecting - their defense is pretty strong but the offense can struggle at times.  Take the Butler game for example they shut down Butler pretty well early in the game but couldn't score much of anything themselves.  They are committing way too many turnovers which cost them in a game at Creighton on Wednesday.  But they aren't used to playing together of course so I don't think that helps turnovers.  Forbes has looked pretty strong and Vice had a really nice game today with Forbes out.  Mason can be exciting with steals but can't always finish on the other end.

Nice second half today to come from behind and beat Villanova especially with Forbes out today.  No idea how long Forbes will be out - big game coming up against Seton Hall at home Wednesday night in a game that will be on FS1 - seton hall lost their first BE game of the season today against Creighton.

Here's something you don't see every day in college hoops ...

The Pitt women trailed SMU by 31 points at halftime ... but then won - going away - by outscoring SMU by 44 in the second half.

Third-quarter score: Pitt 28, SMU 0.

Forbes is back playing again which is a very good thing.  Big game against Seton Hall about to start on FS1.  Hoping Marquette makes it worth it for me to stay out this late on a work night 😀.

Revisiting the preseason Coaches poll for the Big East is really interesting:

BIG EAST Women's
Basketball Preseason Poll
1. UConn – 100 (10 first-place votes)
2. Creighton – 91 (1)
3. Providence – 71
4. St. John's - 67
5. Georgetown – 66
6. Villanova – 56
7. Seton Hall – 51
8. Butler – 46
9. DePaul – 24
10. Marquette - 23
11. Xavier - 10

UCONN is right on for number 1 of course and Creighton looks to be the 2nd best team in the BE so far.  But that Providence-St. John's at 3-4 is not really living up to that prediction at all.  St. John's is 1-6 in BE play and their only win was against Xavier who just won their first conference game in almost 3 years the other day.  Providence moved to 2-7 in BE play after Marquette picked up a road win there today - their only conference wins are against Xavier and and OT win agains St. John's - both of those teams are 1-6 in the conference so far.

DePaul has the same conference record as MU as I type this at 4-3 but has a good chance to move to 5-3 tonight as they play Xavier.  However, they still have a number of tough games coming up - still have to play UCONN twice for one thing.

I think MU will definitely finish well above 10th in the conference but to be honest they are doing much better than I expected them to so far this season so I had no real objections when they were picked to finish 10th in that preseason poll.  They are by no means an NCAA Tournament worthy team but I expect them to play in a postseason tournament and pick up some good experience for next season.

A very winnable game today at home against Georgetown - hoping they can put together back to back conference wins for the first time this season.

Creighton moved their game against UCONN to the arena their men's team plays in - will be interesting to see what their attendance is.  That game is on Fox at 4:30P central - hoping Creighton can be competitive but expecting an easy UCONN win.

6-3 halfway through conference play (the women play only 18 conference games -Marquette only faced Creighton on the road and will only play St. John's at home this season) - much better than I expected them to be at this point.  Of their 9 remaining conference games, I consider 6 of them very winnable, 2 likely losses but ones they could possibly win in an upset if they play well - at Villanova and at Seton Hall and one sure blowout loss - at UCONN.
