Still no chance at an at large bid I think but much better than expected overall this season.

I do not follow the women's team closely and appreciate your posts. I remember that the expectations-for a number of reasons-were quite low, so kudos for what they have accomplished.

Quote from: Marquette Fan on February 16, 2025, 08:13:37 AMAs has been mentioned, DePaul has been on a steady decline the last few seasons.  The last time they made the NCAA Tournament was 2022.  And Bruno has been on medical leave this whole season.  They were picked to finish 9th in the preseason coaches poll just ahead of MU in 10th.

Doug put together a solid roster a few years ago and then it was gutted by the Portal due to NIL. You're going to find this hard to beleive but the DePaul athletic department was caught flat footed.  If Doug was in a golf tournament I would say he's on 16 or 17 of Sunday play.  An incredible career. My wife and daughters have both been campers at his summer camp.  It was an incredible experience for all of them. He's a legend.

That's a bit of a stretch but ok.......

Marquette got blown out at UCONN today - no surprise there.  They finish 12-6 in the BE and 4th in the Big East.  They face 5 seed Villanova to open the BET.  And if they win that game, they can get blown out by UCONN yet again...

Terrible draw because they really need two wins to give themselves a chance at an at-large bid.  Having to face Uconn in the Semis (rather than Creighton) makes that basically impossible.

The draw is on them. - beat Seton Hall at home as they should have and you get the 3 seed.  Plus the loss on the road to a bad Butler team did not help.

But I don't think they had any chance at an at large bid even had they beaten Creighton in the semifinals.  The big East is a two bid league this year.

Interesting tweet by Seton Hall to Charlie Crème - https://x.com/shuwbb/status/1896607866699849974?s=46&t=qmHojXzONY0z7kSh4Cq1Rg

Crème's response also indicates he thinks seton hall has no shot at an at large bid either and they finished one game ahead of MU in the BE and have the more favorable draw in the BET.  MU does have a better NET than SHU though.

Kieger is being retained by PSU - thought she might not be back there.

Duffy's VT team shifted from first team out to last team in the tournament in the latest espn bracketology.  MU still in first four out - https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/30423107/ncaa-women-bracketology-2025-women-college-basketball-projections

I'll admit it didn't seem like a very inspiring/aspirational hire at the time, but she's done a really nice job and now has 2 COY awards in 4 seasons, so clearly she's got something going

There's a postseason tournament run by the NCAA now called the WBIT that I expect Marquette to play in - https://www.ncaa.com/championships/basketball-women/wbit

The WNIT exists but the WBIT is the more 'premiere' tournament to go to for the women if you don't make the NCAA tournament.

I would think Villanova and Seton Hall would also be invited to the WBIT.

You are correct. The WBIT is run by the NCAA, whereas the WNIT is run by a private organization. The WBIT finals are at Hinkle with men's NIT.

In a 24 hour period yesterday, MU men's hoops lose, MU women's hoops lose, my high school boys team loses in state tourney, and my HS girls team loses in state tourney...twice!

Lee Volker went down with an injury yesterday - will have to see if she's available for MU in the post-season.  I'd hate to see her career come to an end with an injury.

Marquette Fan

UCONN blew out Villanova as expected and Creighton had an easy win over Seton Hall also.  So the 1-2 seeds face off in the BET championship game tomorrow - no surprise there.  I expect another easy win for UCONN over Creighton in this game.  And then UCONN and Creighton will likely be the only BE teams in the NCAA Tournament this season.

WBIT selection show will be shown at 8P central on NCAA.com - https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-women/article/2025-03-16/2025-wbit-bracket-schedule-tv-channels-womens-basketball-tournament

The Women's NCAA selection show coming up at 7P central - expecting 2 teams from the BE to make it - UCONN and Creighton - UCONN is definitely in of course with the automatic bid.

Marquette Fan

Marquette is in the WBIT but is not seeded and is traveling to Drake.  Villanova is a 4 seed and Seton Hall a 3 seed and are hosting.  I'm wondering if MU put in a bid to host or not.

Virginia Tech is the top overall seed in the WBIT - let's see if Duffy can win her first post season game.

Marquette Fan

Seton Hall had a net of 76 and the Big East is not a strong conference (Marquette had a NET of 63) - not sure how Bozzella can honestly think they deserved an at-large bid - https://x.com/TonyBozzella/status/1901324103157453153

They weren't even listed as a next four out in bracketology predictions.

Ugh - MU plays at Drake at 2P central time Thursday - I had assumed I could at least watch their game.  But I can't leave early or take off that day so I can't watch them at that time.
