Autographs for adults.

Unless something has specific sentimental value (a Marquette fan getting Butch Lee to sign '77 FF program, for instance), I don't really get it.

Kids are a different story, of course.

My old fashioned feelings on tattoos:

Not everyone with one is on Death Row.

But pretty much everyone on Death Row has one.

No thanks.

My thoughts on tattoos:

I am fascinated by tattoos as an art form, and really like quality tattoos.  Ink Master is a guilty pleasure.

I'm virtually certain that I'd never get one.

I'd prefer if my kids didn't get them.

Quite of few of my nieces and nephews have them.  Several are heavily tatted and some of them are really good.

It will be interesting to see what happens when tattoos are no longer in fashion.
Have some patience, FFS.

I always told my kids that the day any of them got a tattoo or a piercing in a place other than an ear, it was time to move out of the house.  My two sons and a daughter made it through without having to move out....

And ear gauges.  I don't get it.

My daughter will be in for a surprise.

Sometimes I think my kids are goofs, but not in this regard.

Awhile back (I think Chick jr. was in middle school), the subject of tattoos came up, and I said to her, "The problem with tattoos is that the things you think are cool at the time you get one  might not seem so cool later.  If you had gotten a tattoo when you were 3 years old, you'd have a permanent picture of Barney the Dinosaur on your body."

She said, "Good point", and to this day is tat-free.

All I can think about with the tattoos is what is it going to look like when you are 70 or 80?  What picture would I possibly want to be permanently branded with for 60 years?

I don't like tattoos at all, but unless you are my wife or kid you should care roughly 0% about that.

That logic only works on girls because boys of all ages like nekkid women.  Just kidding.  Kinda.

but not every individual who gets a tattoo does it impulsively. My wife has a tattoo reading "Cura Personalis" and it's something that means a lot to her and something she thought about for a long time before getting it. Our rule is to wait three months and if we still want it then go for it. It's not like she went in, pointed to the wall and said "I want the third skull from the right, second row." She got her first 13 years ago and has no regrets about it. I've had mine nearly 5 years and have no regrets. All that we have are in areas that can be covered easily if the situation dictates doing so.

As I said up thread, I'm pretty sure I'll never get one.  But, if I did, it probably would be along these lines.  Just a few weeks ago my brother and I were talking, "If you did get one, what would you get?"  My answer was either the first letter of my kids' names or "AMDG" (which, coincidentally, is actually only one letter off my kids' initials...should have named my first daughter something different).

her next one, if she pulls the trigger, is going to be "AMDG."  She's joked about adding her birthdate similar to the cornerstones on the buildings at MU.

It's going to look like faded blobs. But you'll be 80, so you won't care.

The coach on the high school girls' basketball team for which I am an assistant just got a huge, very colorful lion tattoo on his arm. The girls already thought he was the coolest thing going, so they really dig this.

When my son was 13, he tried to "get" me by asking: "What would you say if I got my ear pierced?"

I smiled and said, "Go for it. Pierce both of them. And your nose. And your scrotum, for all I care."

He's 31 now. Still no piercings.
