The question of secession definitely existed from the time of ratification of the Constitution through the Civil War.  Anti-Federalists, like Patrick Henry of Virginia, feared that ratifying the Constitution would end the sovereignty of the States.  Even after ratification, there was much rhetoric about secession and the right of secession.  Sitting Presidents even had varying opinions on the legality of secession.  Andrew Jackson, for example, said secession was not legal while James Buchanan said it was.

Did States reserve the right to secede from the Union?  Short answer, no. Here is a good read on the subject:

Most definitely, the Krystal Chiks (chicken) for one, and the fries are an improvement over white castle.  Either way, ideal drunk food.

I am also guessing that Krystal does not have all the weird bastardizations of sliders that White Castle does.

I'd never heard of Krystal until they became one of our customers.  White Castle is also one. 

When the Krystal people came to MKE, I asked them about the similarity to WC, which one came first.  Apparently they were invented around the same decade .. but the owners of Krystal and WC had a gentleman's agreement, Krystal would stay south of the Mason-Dixon line, WC north, and that looks be in effect today.

I can't for the life of me figure why WC doesn't have more than 1 store in Wisconsin.  It would be a smash success in MKE.

There are definitely White Castles in Nashville now, and that is where I used to patronize Krystal as a kid.

Only Krystals I've ever been to was the one on Bourbon Street... not sure if it's still there, but for those of you who haven't been, it was basically the first storefront on Bourbon Street as you entered from Canal (the major east-west route that you see in any pictures/videos of the Mardi Gras parade).  In other words, it is/was the first (or last) stop on Bourbon Street for tens of thousands of people every night.

That location had to be a goldmine after 1:00a... wouldn't be surprised if they we're just dropping off a few cows at the back door every night (incidentally, about one block west there was a place where you could drop a few on some cows showing their back doors).

Ask someone in Sauk City if they consider Steak n Shake a competitor and they'll nod their head.  Ask the same person if they think Krystal or White Castle a competitor and they'll laugh you out of the room.

Easy.  Low-cost/low-margin/high-volume businesses tend to gravitate towards less affluent, under-served, relatively low-risk, high-density/high-traffic areas.  Wisconsin has a lot of places that meet two or three of those criteria, but not all four.
