I know my dog is just a dog.  But I love to fully humanize her thoughts and feelings.  I'm an old man doing old man things.

Dogs are better in that they are always happy to see you, and you have far more influence over how they behave.

Cats are better in that you can just leave them at home when you go on vacation for a week, and they poop in a small, easily scoopable box instead of all over the yard.

And yeah - either one is just a pet, not another human in the family.

When I'm out riding my bike, I have been chased by dogs several times. I have never been chased by a cat.

We have tons of red-winged blackbirds by me and I have never been attacked by one.

On the other hand, starlings...

You know what I like?

Recharging batteries.   It gives me a sense of accomplishment.

Like, even if I wasted most of the day, by god, these batteries are ready to go.
