Welp, if Ramey is out, that than leaves the following left for 2018 - 2019 (shamelessly stealing from Dodds' board):

  • Tim Finke 6-6 SG, 3 stars - signed with Grand Canyon
  • Courtney Ramey 6-6 PG, 4 stars - trimmed MU out of his list
  • Khavon Moore 6-8 SF, 4 stars - trimmed MU out of his list
  • Tyger Campbell 6-0 PG, 4 stars - warm on Purdue
  • TJ Moss 6-4 SG, 3 stars
  • Kiyon Boyd 6-5 SG, 3 stars

Marquette isn't listed as "warm" on any of these guys...I don't have the latest info so I'm not sure how accurate or up to date these guys are. I know we were also after Connor Crabtree but I didn't see him listed there and I don't have the latest.

GGGG

I would be surprised if we went after any freshmen unless they are Grimes-like in quality.  Grad transfer, regular transfer, yes.

We should try to get in on Jordan Tucker. I have seen him play and he would be very helpful to our cause.

Xavier Pinson from Simeon just picked up an offer from Georgetown, kind of surprised he hasn't gotten more D1 offers.

Pure point guard, decent size at 6'3", hasn't scored a ton this year but that's because he doesn't need to at Simeon.

Wait, we have a recruiting thread? When did this start? Why didn't I know about this?!?

I am warming to the idea that Greg can play the point next year.    A combo guard with size would be great.

I kind of view him as the "in a pinch" guy at the point. If he has to play there, we could certainly do worse, but I don't think he's the guy we want with the ball in his hands most of the time and would rather see him being used to create matchup problems at the 2/3 while recruiting a more natural point guard.

Does Magic Dawson have any eligibility remaining?

MU82

I am open to the idea of Greg being the PG next year, or at least point-ish, if we can't bring in a grad transfer. (And Wojo sure is relieved that I am open to it.)

The problem is if Markus and he both get into foul trouble - which is definitely a possibility ... then what? Even though Sam handles it well for a forward, and Cain and Anim are passable, there is really is nobody to initiate the offense.

The last time we were decidedly frontcourt-heavy was 2013-14, and that didn't turn out well. Then again, Markus could not be more of a polar opposite of Derrick.

Graduated from Liberty last year. Interestingly, he carved out a role as the starting 3 for the Flames, and really was more a rebounding specialist than anything else. Still poor on efficiency, even at the lower level.

Isn't word on the street bailey has a really good handle and outside shot? Or was that just for a person his size?

I too remember this. I thought he was largely playing point-forward in HS.

It really sounded like Bailey was being recruited as a shooting guard when he was coming out, or as a 2/3 combo. I don't think he'll be a primary ball-handler by any means, and while it sounds like it's (again) been confirmed he'll be arriving on campus in the next few months it's tough to see where he'll fit in to get minutes as a freshman.

I agree with this I'm just saying that as far as foul trouble goes he is someone who has some ball handling capabilities

Hey Brew?is it possible for you to start a Juco/Grad transfer PG thread similar to the recruiting thread? I know the current list of viable candidates is in one of these threads, but don?t know where. You seem to have the best handle on the availability of these players. Thank you in advance.

Okay guys.  Help me out with the '18s so I can get the chart updated.  You know the criterion.  No million to one shots + active recruiting.  Thanks.

wadesworld

I'll be worried if we go into next season with Howard and Elliott as our point guards.  I'm not sure what anyone has seen that suggests Elliott can play the point for anything more than a random possession where the opponent keeps the ball out of Howard's/Rowsey's hands.  Right now when the offense gets in trouble and he catches the ball he (smartly) dribbles towards Howard/Rowsey and gets the ball in their hands to let them reset the offense.

I think Howard is a much better shooting guard than point guard, but think he's a very solid second option at the point.  Cain I guess could develop, but I think he'd still be at best a second option there.

I think you need to add somebody who you can simply give the ball to and clear the backcourt and trust that he will handle any type of ball pressure in the backcourt.  I don't think Howard is that and so far I've seen nothing to suggest Elliott is that.  For as wild as Rowsey can be in half court decision making, he is very steady at getting the ball into the half court with no issues in the backcourt when pressured.  Just get the ball to him and get the other 4 guys on the court set up in the front court.

And as far as Bailey goes, I think he will be a very pleasant surprise.

I would expect him to get played very similarly to Sam Hauser.  A 6'8.5" sharp shooter that can put the ball on the ground, or post up depending on match ups.

My guess from things I've seen/heard.  More athletic than Hauser, not as good a shooter, but similar play mechanics.

Also, expect him to be rusty next year.

Oh, and who was that 'person' who started his own threads and trashed mine where we've all done a pretty good job over the years?  Thanks for the locks rocky/topper!

Seriously guys.  Help me out here and I'll update the chart right away.  We need some good pipeline info, especially on '18.  Thanks in advance.   ;D

Consider the possibility - shudder - that you already have all the current '18 pipeline info.

A lot of spring action happens, well, in spring.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I think the next week will be telling. While I'm sure the staff will be working starting tonight on Xavier, they will also have a lot of time to get out and evaluate talent. It wouldn't surprise me to see some late 2018s become targets. Let's see if the staff visits someone like Connor Crabtree or Xavier Pinson this week. Otherwise, Rocket Watts, Mario McKinney, and DJ Carton are all 2019 names the staff could get a look at this week.

As far as grad transfers, I'll throw something together with potential names. What could make it more interesting in the NCAA meeting coming up that could make all transfers with a 2.7 or 2.8 GPA immediately eligible starting in August 2018.

Remember we've got the FBI lurking out there, and plain ol' coach got fired at the end of the season news, both of which can lead to fall commits getting releases.  I think this possibility and grad transfers are the two most likely since a regular transfer can't help with the immediate need for more ball handling next year.

IDK if it's the worst thing.  Wojo might really want a grad transfer for one slot.
