TAMU, Knower of Ball

Quote from: Tha Hound on August 03, 2017, 02:55:34 PM
Yep, looking at Kentucky's 2018 targets almost all of their priority targets are higher ranked than Grimes, including multiple PG's. I don't think Grimes will come here but I doubt he chooses Kentucky. Most signs seem to point to Kansas.

Well if Kentucky is out for that reason than Kansas likely is too. They will likely have Charlie Moore, Malik Newman, Sam Cunliffe, LeGerald Vick, and Marcus Garrett locked up for that year unless any of them go pro (don't see it happening for any of them). They are also in on two PGs and two SGs that are ranked higher than Grimes in the 2018 class. Could be a very crowded backcourt to walk into. Personally, I don't think it comes down to perceived playing time.

Zona is the one that scares me the most. Miller seems to have made Grimes a top priority and they are a popular pick to win the national championship this season.

I don't really know how Twitter works. Did anyone follow up and ask if the buzz is anything more than simply being in his top 7?

I read that as Grimes committing here. I don't put a lot of stock in it.

But as was mentioned, it would be sweeeeet if Flood was wrong about Joey and right about Grimes.  Of course as soon as he makes the prediction on 247 we're dead men walking.

Reopening of Herro may happen soon, this Grimes is a talent but we need to be ready to get back into the real race when it goes down. Anyone know if Hauser is at two a days right now?

Can we ban this guy/TommyMU already?

We are in play and there is mutual interest.  Wojo has communicated a vision that is very clear and exciting.  I still think it is a long shot, but I mad the mistake of saying that as was soundly rebuked.  "Marquette does not need to be second to anyone, anyone".  That is clearly the message that he is portraying to players and parents.

Thanks BD. You're no Evan Flood, but not bad either.  ;)

Any sense as to the prospect for a visit?  Thanks as always BD.

He already knew MU was in the top 7 when he posted it.

Nobody has "buzz" about making a top 7........

Well, crap. We can't return the "Made 2018 top 25 recruit's top 7 list" banner.

Hmm, doesn't sound like a guy who will be heading off to greener pastures in a couple years, as suggested by Badger fans.

I've said it before---there will come a coach at MU who truly gets what ball means to this university and what can be accomplished, and stay a long time. I'm am starting to believe that is Wojo. However, that is really proof of nothing. He could bolt like the rest of them. But, no reason to dwell on it mom--regardless what wisky fans say. Btw-they have Herro to worry about.

GoldenWarrior11

If Wojo leaves, we will be fine.  After all, Crean is available.

In all honesty, Wojo and Collins will probably be the top choices to replace Coach K at Duke, once he decides to retire.  That is the job that I think Wojo is waiting for.  If that is the job we lose our head coach to, then we can safely say our program is in phenomenal shape.  It's one thing to lose a coach to VT (unique situation), but when you have a program that loses a head coach to Indiana and Duke, that says you have a sustained program capable of winning big with a collection of coaches.

Having said that, I hope Wojo is here for another ten years.  He has made great strides not only as a coach, but just becoming more personal and fun with fans and the public, that I really think the next year or two we break out again.  In time, I believe Wojo will be considered a home run hire.

fjm

Man golden, I hope Wojo is a lifer. He is recruiting well and recruiting not only good talent but all around solid people.

Having said that, Wojo leaving or any coach leaving is always a possibility. But for now let's enjoy what is shaping up at MU!

MomofMUltiples

Don't want to take this too far off topic, but I'm really hoping that Wojo sees Marquette as his Duke.  He's mentioned the similarities before, the strong basketball tradition and school support for the program.  If he can build something great here, why would he want to leave to succeed K at Duke with all the pressure to perform?

No guarantee he won't bolt at the first offer from a blue blood, but at least I like the way he's thinking, that he can aim high and truly believe he can sell these kids on his vision.

Call me naive but I do believe his sincerity regarding his respect and admiration of all of our tradition and don't see him leaving except...

If duke calls he is absolutely gone, no question about it. It's his alma mater and dream school, he would welcome the pressure of following K. That's just how competitors are. I still think K has 3+ years left so we selfishly should root for Chris Collins to keep things rolling at northwestern.

I'm kind a hoping Wojo & K switch spots. Proximity wise, it makes a lot of sense.   K is a Chicago guy who would probably thrive in the Midwest.
