I mean I don't know for sure, but aren't a lot of the guys back home right now?? Is Sam even on campus?? I'm pretty sure Joey sees his brother enough that this isn't just a trip to hang out with him. My big question would be, given the semi weird timing of this, could we hear about a verbal coming??

I doubt it, because if he was ready to commit he would come on an official visit. Unofficial is on his dime and an official is on MU's dime.

Can MU pay for the families of current team members to attend something like this, or is that an impermissible benefit?

My guess is that having a top recruit like Joey milling around a place containing hundreds of liquored-up boosters is just asking for trouble.

Not saying that there would necessarily be shenanigans, but the optics might not be the best.

Looks like it has been changed now to January 1st junior year

If Joey were to verbal now, it wouldn't preclude him from taking official visits, but it would make that all expenses paid football weekend trip to Wisconsin (or Michigan State or anywhere really) less comfortable and possibly less likely.

Let a kid be a kid and enjoy what he's earned.  We'll know soon enough.

That's how I see it too.

Frankly, I'll bet Joey is already 75% sure.  He knows there's nothing new to learn about Marquette and I'm confident his family wouldn't let him lead on a university inappropriately.  But why not keep your options open and enjoy the ride?  He hasn't disrespected the process at all.  I'd be very surprised if he doesn't announce his decision within the next 90 days or so.

My guess is that he's just stopping by to let Coach Gard know in person that while he is thankful for the opportunity, he is going to Marquette.
