I would hope that a recruit would know better than to take posts on any fan board-not just scoop- seriously.

No, this doesn't happen a lot.

What happens rarely is fans on a message board trash a recruit and that contributes to the recruit (or more often their parent) crossing the school off their list. It's not common but I've heard of it happening more than once.

Desrosiers is probably the most prominent Marquette one I can think of, but message boards was just a part of it. Combination of misreading of the recruitment by the coaching staff, an erratic parent, and message boards.
