There was nothing I saw last year that suggested that Tre was better than Jones. Tre may have more potential, but I don’t think Tre would have played much at all had Jones stayed healthy.

Yep. Judging by PT before Jones got injured, Shaka certainly didn't think Tre was "better" than Sean.

There are stats that suggest that the team was more successful on both offense and defense when Tre was on the floor than Sean. Personally, I think Sean is better on offense and Tre is better on defense. I think Tres offense has more potential to grow than Seans defense,  not even taking the possible impact of Seans injury to account

Sean is who he is.  He's a speedy crafty defender, but isn't tall or wide enough... plus he's coming back from a major injury.

Tre has a much higher ceiling, imo, solely because he's half a foot taller.

Seems like I'm in a minority here, but I was impressed with what Sean flashed last year. He lacked consistency, but I think he showed potential to be a very good high-major starting PG. He'll have real limitations because of his size, but I think he has a good chance to develop into an all-around impact player. That said, he'll need a full recovery from what sounds like a very bad knee injury.

Sean is talented.
Tre is good.

Height, size, strength, defense, even offense. Sean has more reps at the point, but that was supposed to happen. And MU not the best with him in that spot with the exception of minutes againist Kansas and Creighton. And in that creighton game, they just dared him to shoot, he didn't have to create at all.

Jones brings a defensive intensity that no one on the team has, on ball defense is insane.  Offensively he learned from year one to year two.  Not sure if he will even play this year or if he does will he have the same lateral movement?  Saw him earlier in the month and looked a long way away from playing.  Tre better grow up this year, need him to play. Heard he was working on his shot, needed work.

Sean is a disruptive on ball defender. I wouldn't say that makes him a good defender. If he didn't get the deflection he probably gave up a bucket.

Sean was a liability when the other team forced the switch.   Shaka had a better solution than Wojo did when Markus or Rowsey got trapped down low, but it still anounyed to a fire drill.   Everybody shades and then collapse when they hit Sean's guy on a post up.

Sean is a disruptive on ball defender. I wouldn't say that makes him a good defender. If he didn't get the deflection he probably gave up a bucket.

Generally an on ball defender isn't going to be getting many deflections, as he's not playing a passing lane.  Sean wasn't defending wings very often, which is where you see a lot of gambling take place to go for deflections/steals.  That's not to say deflections don't happen as an on ball defender, as they do, but not with the frequency of a wing defender.  I don't recall Sean being out of position often/giving up buckets from gambling on D/going for deflections.  Maybe on occasion he got drove by due to being overly aggressive, pushing up a little too much.

Sean's defense is highly disruptive and forces our opponents to try to initiate offense from areas on the floor which aren't very desirable - which is a foundational element to being a good defensive team.

I hope Tre takes a big step up this year.  He had a few moments where he showed some potential, yet on the whole I'd say Sean's presence in a game was felt more than Tre's.  Tre did show some bully ball capability though, which was encouraging.

Hoping Sean is able to get back to full strength and be the positive impact for our team that he has been in the past, and that Tre takes a big step up.

This. He was blown past a surprising number of times for a guy with his quickness.

This is why you have to be careful about posting rumors from sources on a public message board.

You said a couple days you heard Marquette had moved on.  What if the family read that and Shaka gets a call?  Pretty awkward conversation right?

Think real hard about posting recruiting rumors in the future or at least phrase them so they aren’t so definite.

If it were not for rumors and innuendo, this forum would not exist. If you reduce the number of rumors and innuendo, it will be far less entertaining.

I said you can phrase things in a different way.  That’s all I’m suggesting.

If people want to laugh at what I suggest, fine.

I didn’t understand this much before, but now I do.

I’ve gotta scolded for discussing Marquette visiting the German kid, but to my credit I held back the part about the German kid not being very good to the evaluators eyes (not a culture fit, if you will)
Then Shaka said so much in a podcast haha.

I respect the importance and value Shaka places on keeping things tight knit in recruiting, it seems to be very important to him and the program, and the reason we are all here- or should all be here- is the happiness the success of that program gives us all.

Shaka, and his team of coaches behind the scenes that are putting in all the hard work, are crushing it. This program is in amazing hands, so we need to all respect what they strive for, even if that means we just have to patiently wait.

That said, in the scenario given above if the family really reached out to Shaka over a rumor/intel on MUScoop and that led to him flying out to see Stevens again it’s probably a good thing.

A lot of things happen, there are games behind the scenes, so perhaps Shaka and Co feared they were losing ground and this is by design that the rumor had gotten out? Then Stevens’ folks find out about it and say “wait a second we really like Shaka and Marquette, what’s happening here?”

All speculation. The only obvious thing is that Coach likes Stevens- hence why he’s personally gone out to see him several times- and want him at Marquette. Ditto with Ward and likely Nyk Lewis.

Get ‘em Shaka!
