Disagree. When I was in grade school Marquette was my dream basketball school above the rest. Duke was a small far away school that I thought was military.

Here's something on a guy that actually chose MU.
Owens with a lightning bolt from 95 to 38 in early 2024 rankings from Rivals.
I am very bullish on our 2024 class. Length is a good thing.

Who cares about length?  What's their neck size?

I'm far closer to some people who I've met over the last year than I am with some friends I've known for my entire life.
I second this.

I’m not a scout or recruiting expert, but Kon getting into the top 15 just doesn’t pass the eye test.  He’s really good but I struggle to see him as a first round pick, much less 1 and done which is the territory he’s getting to with this sort of ranking.  He’s an undersized 3 and doesn’t have the athleticism to guard 3s, much less 2s at the next level.  I think Joe Harris is probably a decent comp.  But I think he’s a bit quicker of foot and was still a 4 year guy and a second round pick

And sometime in the future, this class of '70 alumnus may have no recollection of Marquette winning a national title either.  ;D

I don't disagree. I think Kon may be a recruit with a very high floor (hence the high ranking) but his ceiling may not be much higher than his floor. He's an elite offensive player (led EYBL in scoring) but I'm not sure how much better his defense can get. I could see him being one of those guys who was an elite college player but ends up as a career 3P specialist in the pros.

Duke bounce.

If Duke signed me, I'd become a top 30 player.

Duke has been full of "high floor / low ceiling" guys, including its head coach who was a McD All-American in high school, consensus AA and national champion at Duke, and didn't log a single minute in the NBA.

Shaka continues to blow me away with his ability to get kids who are not on everyone’s radar and who are then on the rise big time.

Contrasting what Creighton has done since joining the Big East with what Butler hasn’t done is remarkable.

He was the best HS player I ever saw. Led his team to the state championship as a freshman, 1st team all state all 4 years. Once scored 21 points in the final 75 seconds of a game.

But he peaked early, went undrafted and an eye injury cost him a shot at the NBA. To your point, the best kids at 16 or 17 aren’t always the best at 21 or 25.

But those of us who do -- holy mackrel, it's better than booze, sex and a great steak dinner all combined into one!

Comparatively few things in life matched the stunned feeling I had the night we won the National Title. We'd been so close for so long and that night... we made it!

Here's hoping even you, Brother Sultan, have that feeling someday!

I think it all comes down to coaching. Creighton has had one guy in charge since the move. Butler's guy (Stevens) left the summer before they joined the Big East, the couldn't retain the next good option (Holtmann), and for any program having 4 coaches in 10 years is tough. Consistency wins, and Butler hasn't found any.

+1. The only thing that came close (sports wise) was when the White Sox won the World Series. But even though I had waited 52 years for the Sox to win it all I wasn’t moved as much as I was in 77.*

…I come from a MU family, not attending MU was not an option! But, I was 8 in ‘74, 11 in ‘77. I thought all that winning was the norm. Too young to understand or appreciate. When Doc beat ND in ‘81, DWade-led FF in ‘03…I want, I need, more of that, please. Do it do it!

I am few years older and I want more as well. Let’s see the program do something we have waited a lifetime for. I am getting more excited by the day. I think the excitement going into this season is the highest in my adult life.

LFG!!

I felt that way in 2003 as a junior at Marquette. I figured Crean had it figured out and we were going to stay at the top. Sure, Wade might leave, but Diener, Novak, Dameon Mason incoming, we were set. I went to Minneapolis but didn't go to New Orleans because I figured we'd be back in the Final Four soon enough.

When my wife and I got married, I included Marquette basketball in my wedding vows and made it clear if we get back, I'm going to be at the Final Four. Sincerely hoping that's in about 6 months.
