I'm proud to have followed Marquette basketball since 7th grade on a transistor radio. Those were the days of Bob Wolfe, Paul Carbins, and led to George Thompson, and on and on. I just hope I last to see another championship.

Also, If I were a big in state recruiting guy for 2025.

The player I would be going for is Jamarion Batemon at Milwaukee Academy of Science. Iowa State and Illinois are probably in front for him. He plays for Power 5.

Nebraska, Marquette, Cincinnati, Purdue, DePaul, and Michigan State  were watching him play this month.

Unrelated but props to Sekou Konneh, getting a Louisville offer.

Looks like Marquette has offered Batemon.

Curious on when there was this much excitement heading into a season. To be honest, I think the last time I thought they could win a NC going into a season was 1978.

Well, we were preseason number 11 in 08-09 and had a similar amount of experience coming back. I know we had an unknown coach and a glaring issue down low but thats probably the only legit contender

The Hausers announced their transfer in April. I don't think that meets the definition of "going into a season."

Technically no, but this was pre-NIL and pre-transfer portal, so there was basically nothing to indicate that the team in October would be materially different from the previous April.

Marquette's 2018 roster was a two man team. Sam and Markus were two top 50 players. I don't know if the third best player on that team would crack a top 400 players list that year.

Marquette's 2023-24 roster has two clear top 50 players between Oso and Kolek. The heights Kolek were at that year were higher than the 2018 pair. Kam Jones might crack the top 50, he is clearly top 100. Mitchell and Joplin will be top 200, could be in the back end of a top 100 list. If the chase ross jump is as real as it seems, he would have been the third best player on that 2018 team.

2019 before the letter.

The letter, allegedly, came after the at Nova game.  When we were 23-5 and alone in first in the BE at 12-3.  Sam and Joey just wanted to play winning, unselfish basketball and didn't care about stats though.  So being the leaders they are, they sent a petition around to have everyone but Markus on the team sign telling the coach how to get their horrible season turned around.  To great results, too!

I really like our 2024 class Size , Athleticism and Talent in abundance. I am including Caedin Hamilton in 2024 since he taking a redshirt season this year to gain skills instead of going to a Prep school.

Shaka/MU has been putting together multiple high quality classes in a row. The original group which includes the superstar transfers, the current sophomores  which all showed flashes of talent last season,  the current freshman who appear promising and now the 2024 group. That kind of balanced classes of recruiting , with multiple All Big East type, and solid  Rotational types moving up each year can create an extended period of prosperity.

When Shaka was first hired the notion of him being a strong recruiter was discussed. We are now seeing these skills play out in real time

The recruiting has been good… and i’m Including re-signing Stevie Mitchell, Kam Jones and Oso.   Our top three players mostly… have been Wojo recruits, but their development has been Shaka. So, I would say so far, Shaka has shown recruitment chops and development chops…. All good

Certainly the development of Oso, Stevie, and Kam has been really, really good. And, while the recruiting is certainly encouraging, I am trying to keep in mind that , so far, Shaka has recruited three really good players - Tyler Kolek, David Joplin, and Chase Ross. Sean Jones we don't really know about yet, and it is yet to be determined if he will ever earn anything more than spot minutes. Emarion Ellis did not work out due to injury. Itejere was just too much of a project, I guess. In my mind, Shaka is sort of 3 for 5 on recruits with one undetermined. Maybe that's a good percentage since all coaches have recruits that do not pan out, get hurt, etc. The actual playing success of this year's freshmen will be interesting to watch - looks to be a really good group. Do not take any of my remarks to be criotical of Shaka since I like his approach to recruiting a lot.

And we know how that ended!

Yikes!

I'm cautiously optimistic. Biggest fear I have is we read too many of our press clippings. This team is good, no doubt, but how good remains to be seen. Maybe I'm an old-timer but to win a natty requires enormous talent that's head-and-shoulders above anyone (UCLA in the 1960s and early 1970s, North Carolina in the Jordan's years or Indiana in 1976), an enormous amount of luck and a favorable bracket.

I'm hopping to be in Arizona in April but I haven't booked a flight and hotel room -- yet!

Brother Brew, they raise 'em tough where I come from!

Whether I'm hopping, flying (on a plane, not flapping), walking, driving, taking Amtrak (as close as I can get) or frickin swimming to Arizona (theoretically possible but not to Phoenix), I truly hope to be there when we make it!

Brother Goose, I fully expect to be celebrating at a bar in Phoenix with you if we win a Natty!
