I love that all of Scoop's entire Israeli basketball experience is Niv. Like no other player from Israel even exists.

Vander played in Israel too.

I will die on the hill that Niv would have been a decent player by his junior or senior year.

Yeah, as much as people have made fun of Niv over the years, he was skilled. He came in at the semester break so he had zero time with the team going in and he was only here for a couple months before leaving due to homesickness.  He did look smooth in the early pre game warm ups at the BC. I agree with landog here.

I always thought he was thrown in before he was ready. As I remember it he joined the team at start of second semester, which meant he missed significant practice time. He had a lot of turnovers, when Crean put him in the game. He simply was not ready to play at this level, since he did not have much practice time. I thought he was mishandled by Crean.

I vaguely recall Niv's father being .....a problem........

It seems like Shaka has his pick.

Like a Blueblood.  Bluebloods select players, everyone else recruits.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Were now basing what Niv could have been based on the layup line.

No layup lines. Was there an hour before games watching them warm up. Niv could really pass, but in games his teammates were not used to his passes. Niv shot looked good as well. As I and another poster noted earlier here, Niv was at a huge disadvantage being new to the program at the semester break. He had obvious skills. Far more than a Keeyan Itejere type player for example. Really difficult to fit in at that point and there was the homesickness issue. Also heard good things from a person connected to the program back then. Given time in the program I suspect he would have been a solid contributor in the rotation by his junior year. Alas, that never happened.

I remember when Koby McEwen hit like 20 straight 3 pointers.......but it wasn't in a game, it was in practice.

He played in the top Israel Premier League for a long time and was a few time all star.  That's not some mediocre farmer league.  He had skills and grew into a nice player.  Would likely have done the same at MU to some extent
