Dude....we won at Carnesecca....he's leaving before semester.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

1. Kevon Looney is 10-58 (17.2%) from three for his NBA career. In his last season and a half, he has 0 makes and 1 miss.  Those are the facts.

2. I'm not even saying Oso is as good as Looney. Just comparing the role Oso could play if (IF!!!) he makes it to the NBA.

But Oso's not playing in the NBA. In Oso's third year in college Oso hasn't shot a 3 point attempt. In Looney's freshman year he shot 1.6 three pointers a game and made them at a 42% clip. Looney had the ability to stretch the floor coming out of college. Oso does not.

BCHoopster

Let Oso first start making free throws much less a three pointer!

No crap Oso hasn't shot a three.  I never claimed that he did.

So you just knowingly compared apples (Oso in year 3 of college) to oranges (Looney's NBA career)? Fair enough.

I do not get the Looney-Oso comparison on this thread. I am too lazy to read all of the comments, but the comparison seems to be strange. Big fan of Oso and think he has a chance to play in the NBA, but Looney was sure fire NBA guy coming out HS.

It was just an analogy.  I never said Oso was as good as Looney, just that Oso would have to play a similar role IF he made the NBA.

That doesn't mean I think Oso will be an NBA starter.  He's a fringe prospect that maxes out as a backup small ball 5 (a poor man's Looney, if you will).  And that's a best case scenario.  It's much more likely that Oso ends up as an international pro.

Exactly. It was a "who does Oso remind you of" ... "his game and body type are kind of similar to Looney's" thing. You never said, or even implied "Oso = Looney." Jeesh.

It's probably some of the same folks who compared Kolek to Diener and Nash that are taking issue with what you said about Oso and Looney.

It definitely is the same guy who said the Bucks should dump Giannis a few months before Giannis led them to the NBA title who is claiming that others "don't know ball."

Juan

I do not think that Oso would fill the same role that Looney fills for the Warriors. IMO, Oso would need to highlight his skillset, which does not resemble Looney to me, which neither a good nor bad thing. As I said, I was too lazy to read all the posts on your analogy and only jumped in because I do not see any similarity. If Oso makes the NBA it will be because of basketball IQ, passing and ballhandling, IMO.

I see nothing wrong with comparing players to past players, if they are truly similar type players. My only issue is that I do not think many comparisons are usually correct. That said, there are intangibles that also come into play, such as toughness, jumping ability or demeanor that also factor in. I have noted several times that I believe Joplin has similarities to Dwayne Johnson when he is around the hoop. My comparison is based off of they both can create a shot, similar body type, limited jumping ability and loves to score. I at least think that comp is based off of a number of similar qualities, not just they are both 6-7 and like to score.

In other words, you're saying that Joplin is the exact same as Dwayne Johnson. You clearly don't know ball.  ;)

I can guarantee you that Oso will never play in the NBA.

Although I also have guaranteed that Juan Anderson, Dwight Buycks, and Jamal Cain would never play in the NBA.
I do not think right now Oso is an NBA player. However, given that Juan Anderson made after several years, I would not rule out Oso making it.
