The talk around Bates is the high majors that were interested backed off or pulled offers outright. Guessing Louisville, Michigan, maybe even DePaul were no longer options.

He was an Izzo disciple, so maybe Izzo gave his blessing if Bates wasn't going to East Lansing

That would be weird if not creepy if true. Is Izzo like the AD at EMU?

DePaul got scared and pulled their offer???
The other two I get. DePaul not so much.

I like the new DePaul Head Coach. Kind of bombastic in a fatherly way . My guess is the kid is not wanting that kind of tough love coaching .

It depends on what you're trying to build. Would Purnell or Leitao pull the offer? Probably not. But if Stubblefield wants to build a winner, I can see it. Sounds like Bates' dad is everything Lavar Ball was and then some.

It's possible Bates asked what the difference between "Blue" and "Blue Blue" is, and Stubblefield pulled the offer.

He was the 28th pick. But if Baldwin didn't play a single minute last year or goes to a more prominent school, he's likely to go higher. The Warriors have done well in drafting in the end of the first, particularly with Milwaukee natives. But, Baldwin took a massive gamble staying home and he did lose some initial money from it.

Also, I've heard that Bates' father is like Lavar Ball, without the desire to be on TV. Will be interesting to see how that goes.

He was a first-round pick of the NBA champs, where he'll immediately be surrounded by a winning culture, some of the best players in the league and learn from one of the best coaches of all time.
Pretty, pretty good.

I mean, he had two kids drafted in the top 3.  So even if he is obnoxious, I'm not sure he should be used as a negative comparison anymore.

Baldwin had the good fortune to be drafted by GS. As I told #5 on his draft night...great organization, great coach, and great opportunity to grow into a winning culture, hey?

Maybe, maybe not.
Maybe he goes to a bigger program and the same flaws that led to him being a late first are still exposed, only on a bigger stage. Go back and look at the "way too early" mock drafts from a year ago, and Baldwin is hardly the only projected early pick whose stock dropped substantially. Such as:
Projected top 5 pick Yannick Nzosa went 54th.
Projected top 10 pick Caleb Houstan went 32nd.
Projected lottery pick Kennedy Chandler went 34th.

It's definitely possible that he lost a little money, but he couldn't have landed in a much better situation. And being in position to get that second contract is ultimately way more important than the first.

Pat Sr. is coaching at Georgetown, so I don't imagine he'll be able to cause too much of a ruckus from 2,800 miles away.
Also, Lavar's kids are pretty good NBA players.

As a degenerate sports fan and an individual that frequents a number of message boards, I just want to go on record and say that your schtick is the lamest, most embarrassing thing I've ever come across on a message board. I'd be impressed with your commitment to the bit, if it weren't the most brain-dead, least funny persona imaginable.

Salute to your absolute idiocy. Lord knows what sad series of events has led you to create a message board character and stick it out for years; may the lord have mercy on you.
